The Special Collections teaching collection consists of sources used for archival classroom instruction. Material within the collection was identified as out of scope for our regular collections, yet still useful as a primary or secondary source in our teaching sessions.

Diary (1 January - 25 March 1865) of a sergeant in Company C, 110th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 6th Corps during the Petersburg - Appomattox, VA campaign.

Neisler of Taylor, Georgia, 1866-1881; photocopy typescript account of the 45th Georgia Infantry Regiment (C.S.A.) during Civil War battles at Richmond, Cedar Run, 2nd Manassas, Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, and others, by Joseph A. Walker, 1864; General Store sales records of Nicholas Bascom Jenkins from Nashville, Nash County, North Carolina, 1905-1935; genealogical materials relating to the Letcher, Mitchell, Neisler [Neischler], Jenkins, and Howard families of Nash county, North Carolina; Taylor, Georgia; and Salem, Massachusetts), 1897; also letters and obituary and newspaper articles, including an excerpt from Western Maryland College yearbook relating to on George Stockton Wills, of Westminster, Maryland, 1930-1956; in English, Greek and Latin language.

Thomas R. Lundin was born March 24, 1982, in Madison, Wisconsin. After completing high school in 2000 in Greenville, North Carolina, he joined the U.S. Army and served as an Apache Helicopter crew chief for 3rd Infantry Division in Kuwait during the Iraqi War of 2003. This collection contains papers, a diary, maps, military manuals, and ephemera related to his service, especially during the Iraqi War.

Papers of Paul Green (1985) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Lillington, North Carolina-born American novelist and playwright whose works focus on North Carolina folklore and themes, consisting of incomplete sample proof pages of the first few pages of his dictionary of Cape Fear language and slang, entitled Cape Fear Valley People: A – B, covers, p. 1,4-6, by Paul Green; edited by Rhoda H. Wynn (1985) and transmittal note (16 March 1985) from Heritage Printers, Inc., Charlotte, NC, relating to possible publication; the text later appears in Paul Green's Wordbook: An Alphabet of Reminiscence, by Paul Green; edited by Rhoda H. Wynn; Foreword by John M. Ehle (Boone: Appalachian Consortium Press; Chapel Hill, N.C.: Paul Green Foundation, 1990) 2 vols.

Papers (1944–1945) of Lieutenant Commander Louis F. Loutrel Jr. including ship's histories, war diary (27 September–4 October 1945), roster, and clippings concerning the USS Williams (DE-372).

Papers of J. V. Cunningham (1942-1983) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Cumberland, Maryland-born American poet, literary critic and educator at various colleges including Brandeis University, 1953-1980; consisting of an oversized printed broadside entitled J. V. Cunningham: Two Poems (1983), including two poems printed on separate sheets inserted into slits in a third sheet; also including loose manuscript items transferred from works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including: Bibliography of the Published Works of J. V. Cunningham (1964), The Helmsman (1942), and Woe or Wonder (1951) and other items by J. V. Cunningham.

This collection contains a items related to student life and academics at East Carolina including certificates, event programs, brochures, and memorabilia.
