Nathaniel Pettit Joy Collection

The Nathaniel Pettit Joy Collection (1913-1919 [Bulk: 1918-1919], undated) consists primarily of letters he and his wife Mary received from two New Jersey soldiers and two New Jersey sailors written to Nathaniel Pettit Joy and his wife Mary of Groveville, New Jersey. The soldiers, Raymond "Bud" Danley and William "Bill" Inman were privates in the Headquarters Company of the 309th Infantry Infantry, 78th Division of the American Expeditionary Force; they wrote from England, France and Fort Dix (New Jersey); the sailors were A. C. Griffiths sailor aboard the battleship USS ARIZONA in 1918-1919; and Cousin Edwin, who served aboard the USS SIBONEY, a hospital ship, 1918-1919; the collection also includes several miscellaneous items, including French postcards, photographs of unidentified soldiers and sailors, and a letter written from a Cpl. Walter P. Rogers, who was a guard at a Russian prisoner of war camp in Chemnitz, Germany early in 1919.

Collection consists of a diary (1944-1945) kept by Sgt. Douglas R. Woodworth, a radio operator serving with a B-24 bomber crew attached to the 1st Division of the 8th United States Army Air Force, while stationed in England during World War II.

Papers of R. H. W. Dillard (1965-1983 [Bulk: 1981-1983]) documenting the life and career of the Roanoke, Virginia-born American poet, author, critic, translator, who taught creative writing at Hollins College, Virginia, 1964- and edited The Hollins Critic literary journal, 1996-; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volumes by Dillard entitled The Book of Changes (1974), The Day I Stopped Dreaming About Barbara Steele (1965), and The First Man on the Sun (1981, 1983), including advertising cards, publicity portraits, and a biographical sketch of Dillard by George Garrett (1929-2008); also Stuart Wright's correspondence with Annie [Meta Ann Doak] Dillard (1945-), to whom Dillard was married 1964-1975, and who was also a well-known poet, novelist and educator; and a typescript of The Affluent Beatnik (ca. 1966), by Annie Dillard.

This is the 2nd state of the map and it was included in Histoire Generale Des Voyages.... , published by Harrevelt and Changuion in Amsterdam in 1774. The map is black and white and minimal foxing. Watermark of a strasbourg bend with a fleur. Location: Vault.
