The Vertical File Collection contains individual items that don't fit into existing collections. There is no overall theme or subject connecting them. Items included vary from photographs, broadsides, pamphlets, advertising materials, programs, negatives, and postcards to land grants, genealogy notes, and a music transcription book. Inclusive dates are 1792-2016.

Papers (1846-1937) including correspondence, financial records, legal papers, newspaper clippings, published speeches, announcements, and government documents.

Papers (1803-1957, undated) including correspondence, original poetry, essay, income from tobacco, Civil War causalities, pamphlets, ballot, deeds and indentures, genealogical records.

Collection (1779-1917) including correspondence, deeds, mortgages, letter of sympathy, land documents, promissory notes, and a will.

Logbook, (1862 -1863) of H.M.S. Desperate headquartered in Bermuda.

This donation contains material (1968-1995) collected by Walter Charles Lackey and his wife Mildred Futrell Lackey documenting their involvement in the Murfreesboro Historical Association. Included are a photograph album containing images of the 1980 Dedication of Wheeler House and the 1977 Lafayette Ball, 1981 Lafayette Ball programs, clippings (1968-1979), the History of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church (1976), invocation and history of Wesleyan Female College upon unveiling of a historical marker, "Memories of Murfreesboro" compiled August 1992 by the Recollections Committee of the Murfreesboro Historical Assoc., and three publications.

A map entitled "To David Stone and Peter Brown, Esq. this first actual survey of the state of North Carolina taken by the subscribers is respectfully dedicated by their humble servants Jona. Price & John Strother," was drawn in 1808 and engraved by W. Harrison of Philadelphia, PA.

Records (1888-1981) including correspondence, minutes, treasurer's records, membership rolls, records of state conventions, a scrapbook, clippings, photographs, etc.

Collection (1963-1988, n.d. [Bulk: 1980-1988]) of photographic prints and negatives of city government officials and employees, buildings and activities taken in and around Greenville, North Carolina, for the City of Greenville (NC) Public Works Office.

Papers of physician Hassell Brantley consisting mainly of personal class notes, list of medical school graduates, and transcriptions of some of the notes.
