Papers of William Faulkner (1948-1990) documenting the life and literary career of the noted New Albany, Mississippi-born American novelist and short story writer who won the 1949 Nobel Prize for literature; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including a letter enclosing a printed copy of Faulkner's Nobel Prize acceptance speech and letters from Faulkner's biographer, Joseph Blotner; also a carbon typescript manuscript (ca. 1948) of a Faulkner short story entitled A Courtship.

Glenn Charles Ames, born 29 March 1913 in Wisconsin, served the US Military from 1935-1975, primarily in the National Guard. The Glenn C. Ames collection spans the years 1927-1986 and consists of 598 items, including manuscripts, printed materials, and photographic prints relating primarily to his service in the 41st Infantry Division, United States Army, during World War II. The collection also documents his service as commanding general of the California National Guard, 1967-1975.

Records (ca. 1976-2004) of the East Carolina Council (North Carolina) of Boy Scouts of America include minutes of the Executive Board, photographs, issues of the Tarheel Scouter newspaper, and files pertaining to awards given to scouts.

The collection includes materials (1898-1959) documenting the work of Shackleford Banks native Josiah Clark Chadwick working on freighters running from North Carolina to New York, and then with the Army Corps of Engineers in North Carolina (1927-1959) working the Eastern N.C. federal waterway projects on diesel engines and then inspecting dredges. Included are family history, Chadwick's work history, training materials, engineers' level books, logbooks, and inventories of engineering property in Chadwick's charge.

Papers (1918-2005) relating to Greenville and Enfield, North Carolina boy scout leader including his World War I Diary recounting his service in the 14th Company, 4th Training Battalion, Depot Brigade and the 218th Ambulance Company in the American Expeditionary Force in France, 1918-1919, camp schedule, list of letters received and answered, addresses of French women, debts, English - French phrase, movements, places visited, and observations on daily military activities; memorials after his death; biographical sketches and clippings; letters and clippings describing him; and photographic prints of him in his World War I uniform. Best, Sr., who served in the U.S. Navy; Glanor Gay Best, who served in the Women' s Auxiliary Army Corps (WAAC); Gaston Gay, who died while serving in the U.S. Merchant Marine in 1942; also relating to Vietnam War service of Hugh E. Best, III who was killed in action in 1969.

Material (1844-1891) including correspondence, account books, speeches, pamphlets, receipts, legal papers, and publications concerning William Robinson (an Irish immigrant) who was a newspaper publisher, town commissioner and mayor of Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina, and his son Dr. Marius Emmet Robinson who practiced in Goldsboro, operated a drugstore with his brother, and was the first chief of staff of Goldsboro's first hospital.

Papers, 1861-2011 (bulk 1940-1992), undated, of Senator Robert Burren Morgan, an ECU alumnus and lawyer, who served the state of North Carolina in a variety of elected and appointed positions. His first elected position was clerk of court in Harnett County. He was elected to the State Senate, served as president pro tempore of the Senate, and was twice elected Attorney General of North Carolina. He served in this position until 1974, when he won the United States Senate seat vacated by Senator Samuel James "Sam" Ervin, Jr. Morgan served as United States Senator from 1975 to 1981. He returned to his law practice following an unsuccessful reelection campaign and later served as Director of the State Bureau of Investigation from 1985 until 1992. Morgan served as a member of the ECU Board of Trustees for fifteen years, including nine terms as chair in the 1960s. He helped the institution achieve university status and was instrumental in establishing the ECU School of Medicine. The collection includes series relating to Morgan's family and personal matters, North Carolina Senate Files, Attorney General Files, United States Senate Files, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Files, and Oversized Materials Files. It includes manuscripts, photographs, audio and video materials, electronic records, printed materials, and ephemera.
