The Ethel Clements Sherrod Collection contains personal papers of Ethel Clements Sherrod, including biographical material, correspondence, photographs, clippings, ephemera, printed items, nursing school notes, postcards, and choral music. Materials date from 1777 to 1987, with the bulk between 1920 and 1970, and document Sherrod's education, church and choir participation, family life, and community activities. Additional materials relate to members of the Sherrod family and to associates including Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives, Hazel Odell Holt, and L. R. Shepherd.

Ammons (1954-1993, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Whiteville, North Carolina-born American poet and creative writing educator at Cornell University; consisting of correspondence, proofs of published material, printed materials and oversized materials; also including loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection relating to Stuart Wright's research on A. R. Ammons.

Lenoir County Colonial Commission Records (2006–2007, undated) pertaining to events and activities honoring and celebrating the life and accomplishments of landowner, Revolutionary War general, and six term governor of North Carolina, Richard Caswell, held in Kinston, N.C., 12–19 August 2007; also including newspaper clippings, programs of events, correspondence, financial records, printed materials, digital materials, drafts, and documents regarding the publication of Clayton Brown Alexander's 1930 PhD dissertation, which was a biography of Richard Caswell, entitled "First Patriots and the Best of Men: Richard Caswell in Public Life," which was edited by W. Keats Sparrow.

Papers of Mark Harris [Finkelstein] (1976) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Mount Vernon, New York-born American journalist, novelist, and literary biographer who was also a creative writing educator at San Francisco State University, Arizona State University and several other universities; consisting of a bound, uncorrected, galley proof of his autobiography, entitled Best Father Ever Invented: The Autobiography of Mark Harris (1976).

Papers of Anne Tyler (1980, 1983) documenting the life and literary career the noted Minneapolis, Minnesota-born American novelist and short story writer; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection pertaining to The Best American Short Stories, edited by Anne Tyler (1983); also an oversized archival folder including a review by Anne Tyler of Toni Cade Bambara's novel, The Salt Eaters, in the Washington Post Book World (30 March 1980).

Papers of medical historian Todd L. Savitt include articles, lists, and annual reports.

The Louis Orr Collection contains a set of forty-eight prints of the original fifty-one print set (and one replacement print) made from etchings of North Carolina historical landmarks and architectural sites. The etchings were created from 1939 to 1952 by artist Louis Orr, a world-renown etcher, at the behest of North Carolina resident Robert Lee Humber who wanted to preserve North Carolina's heritage by providing the artwork to schools, colleges, public libraries and institutions throughout the state.
