Papers of Madison Smartt Bell (1922-1997 [Bulk: 1957-1990], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the Nashville, Tennessee-born American novelist, including manuscript materials, proofs of published works, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, and oversized materials, relating primarily to his books Zero db and Other Stories, Barking Man, and The Washington Square Ensemble, and others.

Papers of East Carolina University School of Social Work professor John Ball relating to his education, academic career, research interests, publications, membership on the North Carolina Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse Commission and North Carolina Association of Social Workers, involvement with the Rotary Club, and his family life, including correspondence, typescripts, clippings, photographic prints, printed materials.

This collection (1909-1924) contains seventeen letters, one Christmas card, and a Panamanian calendar sent by A. P. Wilde from Empire in the Canal Zone, to relatives in Louisa County, Virginia. During this time Mr. Wilde was employed by the Isthmian Canal Commission in the Department of Examination of Accounts while the Panama Canal was being built across the Isthmus of Panama. Topics discussed are work on the Canal, the effects of drought, earthquakes, and hurricanes, difficulties of sea travel, treatment of malaria, the drawdown of clerks as the Canal is completed, and his political opinions.

Papers of ECU professor and writer Vernon A. Ward, Jr. containing his published works, literary manuscripts, poetry drafts, correspondence, clippings, memorabilla, and photos.

Papers (1772, 1816-1927) including correspondence, legal papers, deeds and estate papers, financial papers, speeches, stories and poems, clippings, photographs, ledgers, medical bills, services rendered, charges and payments, etc.

Collection (1902-2003) of genealogical and historical research files compiled by John Henry Oden III. Also includes the R. C. Chadwick Mercantile Records, Claude F. Pilley Papers, and the Windley Family Papers. Consists mostly of copies of wills, tax records, letters, deeds, newspapers, birth certificates, family trees, and photographs related to families in Beaufort, Washington, Hyde, and Halifax counties, N.C.

Papers of Wright Morris (1950-1985, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Central City, Nebraska-born American novelist, photographer, and essayist, including his correspondence with William Cole, who edited his novel Man and Boy; also uncorrected proofs of the third installment of his autobiography, A Cloak of Light: Writing My Life, photographic prints, printed materials, and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.
