Correspondence (1894-1966, bulk 1931-1946) between Irving Sherwood Preston and his fiancée (later his wife) Alice Ann Moore of Concord, North Carolina. Preston and Moore married on June 9, 1933. During the bulk of this correspondence, Preston was attending Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia (1931-1933) and serving (1943-1945) in the military during World War II. Also included are letters from family, friends, and associates, especially the earlier letters. Letters written by Preston to his family prior to 1933 document his life at Mount Pleasant Military Collegiate Institute at Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. Other early letters are between Preston's parents (Sherwood Craig Preston and Ida Lillian MacKelvie) prior to their marriage. There are a few photographs and negatives and some ephemera such as a theater broadsheet for "The College Flapper" being produced at the Kannapolis HIgh School Building in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and sponsored by the Kannapolis Woman's Club.

Papers (1947-1960, undated) consisting of correspondence, periodicals, church bulletins, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous, letters, lifestyles, transportations, education facilities.

The collection includes letters (July 1918-March 1919) written by family members and friends in Jamesville, Martin County, North Carolina, to Asa J. Hardison while he was in World War I service with a medical detachment at Camp Greenleaf at Fort Oglethorpe in Chickamauga Park in Georgia and then at Camp Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. Also included are two letters (1909-1910) written by Maggie Roberson (Martha Ann Whitley Roberson) of Jamesville to her brother.

Papers (1867-1869, 1885) of Quaker, who refused to serve in Civil War and who became a tax assessor and farmer near Kinston, NC, and state business agent and treasurer for the NC Farmers' Alliance, 1894-1900, consisting of letterpress book, financial records, Republican party politics, security notes and press, store account.

Papers of father and son physicians Zebulon M. Caveness and William F. Caveness. The papers consist mainly of books of medical school notes; medical correspondence, certificates, and documents; a patient ledger from Zebulon M. Caveness; and a Curriculum Vitae from William F. Caveness.

Papers (1790, 1837-1864) consisting of correspondence by John C. Fennell who served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, was stationed at Camp Heath near Scotts Hill on Topsail Sound, and died (1862) during the yellow fever epidemic in Wilmington, North Carolina. Also includes financial papers, poem, and letters of the Cromartie family of Bladen County, N.C.

Papers (1873, 1892-2009, undated) concerning Littleton Female College (later called Littleton College) in Warren County, North Carolina, and its alumnae include correspondence, programs, college history, alumnae lists, clippings, pamphlets and speeches, etc. The college opened in 1882 and closed after a disastrous fire in 1919. The Littleton College Memorial Association was founded in 1926.

This collection includes records related to the Croom Family especially the annual Croom Family Reunion held at the Croom Meeting House at Sandy Bottom Community on Highway 55 West in Lenoir County, North Carolina. Included are a 1930 photograph of the first Croom Family Reunion, programs, attendance sheets, minutes, obituaries, updated family charts, articles about the Reunion, and tombstone listings.
