This collection contains about 363 cubic feet of material documenting the Congressional career of Lunsford Richardson Preyer. Mr. Preyer (January 11, 1919-April 3, 2001) of Greensboro, North Carolina, served in the U.S. House of Representatives for twelve years (January 1969-January 1981).

Records (1966-2006, undated) documenting the activities of the League of Women Voters of Pitt County, North Carolina, a women's political organization, including historical materials, board of trustees files, publications, clippings, research files, membership files, financial records, scrapbooks, oversized materials, correspondence, annual reports, photographic prints and slides, bylaws, and position statements.

The first yearbook published by the students of East Carolina Teachers College, The Tecoan, debuted in 1923. The name of the yearbook changed to the Buccaneer in 1953. The Buccaneer suspended publication from 1976-1978 and 1991-2005, finally ceasing in 2018. It was superseded by Anchors Away in 2019.

The John W. Warner Papers (1947-1986) document the career of filmmaker and entrepreneur John W. Warner, with a primary focus on the creation, financing, distribution, and later rediscovery of the independent film Pitch A Boogie Woogie. Dating chiefly from 1946 to 1958, with additional materials from 1986, the collection includes correspondence, legal and financial records, promotional materials, memorabilia, scripts, photographs, and audiovisual media that illuminate the business and creative challenges of independent filmmaking in the mid twentieth century. Supplementary materials reflect Warner's broader professional activities in North Carolina, including television production and local theater operations. Together, the papers provide insight into regional film production, film exhibition and promotion, and the processes through which a largely forgotten work was reclaimed and recontextualized by scholars and the public decades later.

Papers of Barry Hannah (1960-2016 [Bulk: 1972-2016], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Meridian, Mississippi-born, novelist and educator at the University of Mississippi, where he directed the Masters of Fine Arts program; consisting of correspondence, manuscripts, photographic materials, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, proofs of published materials, & printed broadsides of his poem Boomerang and other works.

Papers of ECU professor and writer Vernon A. Ward, Jr. containing his published works, literary manuscripts, poetry drafts, correspondence, clippings, memorabilla, and photos.

This collection (1880s-1980s) concerns the Holt family of Smithfield in Johnston County, North Carolina, and the Henderson family in Conecuh County, Alabama, and the Wilson family of Harrison and Detroit, Michigan who are related through marriage. The Holt family material mainly concerns William and Nancy Holt and their children and includes correspondence, diaries, school records, 16 mm films, photographs, and documents such as oil and gas leases in Texas related to William's work with The Texas Company (part of Texaco). The larger portion of the material is related to the other two families and includes correspondence, photographs (tintypes through color snapshots), ledger books and deeds (many related to timber purchases in Alabama and Michigan), and undated plat books for Michigan.

The Ethel Clements Sherrod Collection contains personal papers of Ethel Clements Sherrod, including biographical material, correspondence, photographs, clippings, ephemera, printed items, nursing school notes, postcards, and choral music. Materials date from 1777 to 1987, with the bulk between 1920 and 1970, and document Sherrod's education, church and choir participation, family life, and community activities. Additional materials relate to members of the Sherrod family and to associates including Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives, Hazel Odell Holt, and L. R. Shepherd.

The Watson and Boomer families of Beaufort and Hyde Counties, North Carolina, were connected through marriage. Included are original deeds from the early and mid-1800s; birth, death, and marriage dates and genealogy notes; baby book-type notes about the lives of 2 children (1885-1888) of William I. Watson (his mother was a Boomer) and wife "Ms. Charlie" Sidney Archbell Watson; World War I letters (1917-1918) written by William E. Watson to relatives in Aurora (Beaufort County), North Carolina, from Camp Sevier and Fort Jackson in South Carolina; and photographs (late 1800s-early 1900s).
