Papers (1935-2008, undated) pertaining to noted North Carolina-born poet, educator and artist, A. R. [Archie Randolph] Ammons (1926-2001), including manuscripts, books, proofs, broadsides, pamphlets, periodicals and original art by, about, or owned by Ammons; and relating to his family and childhood, near Whiteville, NC, his service in the US Navy on a destroyer escort 1942-1945; his attendance at Wake Forest University (BA, 1949) and University of California, Berkeley (MA, 1951); his career as teacher and principal at Hatteras Elementary School, as an editor, and as an executive at his father-in-law's glass manufacturing company in New Jersey; but primarily relating to his life as a poet and his academic career at Cornell University, 1964-1998, where he was Goldwin Smith Professor of Poetry at Cornell University after 1989; and to his numerous published works of poetry and his two National Book Awards (1973 and 1993) among other prizes.

This collection contains a single Civil War Diary (October 1, 1862 - March 24, 1863) kept by William H. H. Leach.

Papers of Madison Smartt Bell (1922-1997 [Bulk: 1957-1990], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the Nashville, Tennessee-born American novelist, including manuscript materials, proofs of published works, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, and oversized materials, relating primarily to his books Zero db and Other Stories, Barking Man, and The Washington Square Ensemble, and others.

This collection contains the written works of Dr. Henry Merritt Stenhouse, a U.S. Naval doctor. The written works detail his life as a naval doctor while in China and Japan (1918) and thoughts towards the Russian Revolution, the Chinese revolution, and their culture. It also gives detailed accounts of some illnesses, diseases, and injuries treated by Dr. Henry Stenhouse as well as his life as a medical student at the University of Colorado.

Papers (1953-1991) of USAR officer, system engineer, and senior logistics analyst, including correspondence, a diary (1969-1976), photo albums, clippings, and miscellaneous materials.

This collection (2001-2008) has printed material, minutes, correspondence, ephemera and other documents donated by Dr. Keats Sparrow who participated as a member of the North Carolina First Flight Commission and its Education Committee during the 100th Anniversary celebration of the First Flight. The collection also contains a 2003 commemorative booklet "First Flight Visions celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight," information from the International Commission's 2001 Flight Symposium about the Wright Brothers, photographs, clippings, and brochures. Other items are a travel mug, automobile license plate, pins, shoulder patches and commemorative items.
