This collection includes a scrapbook of clippings (1906-1954) kept by Charlotte Pearl Murphy Wright, the wife of Robert Herring Wright who was the first president of East Carolina University (known then as East Carolina Teachers Training School and later East Carolina Teachers College) in Greenville, North Carolina. Also included are correspondence, announcements related to family affairs, photographs, and genealogy notes (also a few deeds, and bills of sale for enslaved persons) related to the Murphy, and Wright families of Sampson County, N.C., and the Cromartie and Alderman families.

Papers, 1937-2001, of U. S. naval officer, including diaries, scrapbooks, orders, photographs, biographical accounts, and other materials, compiled by Commander Charles P. Trumbull (USN ret.), documenting his naval career from his appointment to the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, MD, as a member of the Class of 1941 to his retirement from the Navy in 1961, and his post-retirement life, 1937-2001.

Also includes also photos of families and friends; White and African American residents; the sitting rooms of Mrs. C. B. Elliott and Mrs. R. L. Papers of William [Morris] Meredith, Jr. (1964-1983) documenting the life and literary career of the noted New York City-born American poet and educator at various universities including Connecticut College; consisting of materials mainly pertaining to The Cheer, by William Meredith (1980); including notes, manuscript typescripts, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection and oversized proofs.

Papers of Jonathan Bumas (1986) documenting the life and career of the Forest Hills, New York-born American book illustrator and publisher of children's books, consisting of oversized original art works with captions for Phonethics: Twenty-Two Limericks for the Telephone (1986) by John Ciardi; drawings by Jonathan Bumas, published by Palaemon Press, Limited.

Papers of Heather McHugh (1981) documenting the life and literary career the noted San Diego, California-born, Canadian-American poet, translator, educator, who became Writer-in-Residence, 1984-2011, and, since 2011, Pollock Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Washington, Seattle; consisting of the corrected galley proofs for her book of poems, entitled A World of Difference: Poems (1981); filed oversized.

Collection (1821-2000, undated [bulk: 1989-2000]) of correspondence, family histories, genealogical charts, copies of deeds, cemetery records, Bible records, miscellany and oversized materials relating to Christopher DeGraffenried, also known as Baron Christoph von Graffenried, who established a colony of Swiss and Palatine emigrants at New Bern, North Carolina, in 1710; and also relating to his ancestors and descendants and the DeGraffenried Association, of Gulfport, Mississippi and San Antonio, Texas, which was established to preserve the family history and to maintain contact between family members; in English, German, Italian, and French language.

The collection includes correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, brochures, and flyers related to the creation of the Parks, Recreation, and Conservation Program at East Carolina University in the late 1960s and the work of faculty member Ralph H. Steele.
