The Ethel Clements Sherrod Collection contains personal papers of Ethel Clements Sherrod, including biographical material, correspondence, photographs, clippings, ephemera, printed items, nursing school notes, postcards, and choral music. Materials date from 1777 to 1987, with the bulk between 1920 and 1970, and document Sherrod's education, church and choir participation, family life, and community activities. Additional materials relate to members of the Sherrod family and to associates including Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives, Hazel Odell Holt, and L. R. Shepherd.

Collection (1900 - 1983, undated [Bulk: 1936 - 1940]) of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographic prints, printed forms, ephemera, printed materials, oversized materials, etc. relating to the life and career of William J. Croom (1901-1940) as a patrolman in Kinston, North Carolina, a member of the first North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Greensboro, N.C., and Director of Public Safety in Durham, N.C.; Also included are Croom and Peed family genealogical files and photographs.

In 1972, Evelyn McNeill was offered a position as an assistant professor of anatomy at East Carolina University School of Medicine (renamed Brody School of Medicine in 1999). She was hired to teach neuroanatomy to medical students as well as physical and occupational therapy students. During her career at the medical school (1972-2001), Evelyn opened her home to students. She began traditions of hosting an end-of-first-year party and another for Halloween. Included in this collection are personal photographs from these parties, historical photographs of the growth and development of the school of medicine, newspaper clippings of medical student announcements, and medical school class photos and rosters during the period of 1972 to 2004.

Papers (1845-1937) of Pasquotank County, N.C. farming and mercantile family, including correspondence, legal papers, financial records, account books, ledgers, a map, cost of advertisements, business cards, etc. Also glass negatives of Hollowell family members, house exterior, room interiors, logging scenes, beach scenes, Nags Head hotel, and an 1899 classroom cadaver dissection scene.

This collection (1924-2000) contains material related to the marketing of products produced by the Empire Brush Company of Greenville, North Carolina. Included are catalogues, price lists, marketing programs, advertising stickers and product wrappings, and original materials used in planographic printing of product wrappings. Although Empire Brush moved its manufacturing facility to Greenville Industrial Park in 1964, the collection also contains items relating to its pre-1964 years and some to Rubbermaid which bought Empire Brush out in 1994.

This collection contains the congressional files for U.S. House of Representatives member Walter B. Jones, Jr., who represented the 3rd Congressional District of North Carolina from 1995 until his death in 2019. Included are files, scrapbooks, media, and electronic files. The electronic files were created by his staff and included speeches, correspondence, articles, promotional material, notes and videos for the years 2005-2018.

Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.

The collection contains the papers of Lavinia "Venie" Roberts (1833-1923), a native of New Bern, North Carolina who wrote an unpublished memoir of her experience during the Civil War. In addition to the memoir, the collection includes material documenting the history of New Bern, the life of wealthy white Southerners during the Antebellum and Reconstruction periods, the lives of those enslaved from the point of view of their enslavers, the efforts of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in New Bern, and genealogical material related to the Cole and Roberts family.

Video interview with Admiral William M. A. Greene (1920-2007) on his time as a student at East Carolina Teachers College and his involvement with East Carolina University as an alumnus. Greene discusses student life, his experience as a member of the football team, teachers he had, friends he made, and values instilled by East Carolina.

Organizational files (1952-2010) for the Sons of The Revolution in the State of North Carolina including minutes, annual reports, membership rosters, secretary's correspondence, financial records, reports, by-laws, newsletters, project files, publications, programs, photographs, and miscellany.

Papers (1930-1949) including correspondence; agriculture and gardening; export of flowers and vegetables; travel account; letters and miscellaneous.

The collection includes publications created by the ECU School of Medicine and the University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

U.S. Navy papers (1943-1945), primarily for the USS Chilton, USS Lyon, and USS Calvert, including training materials, rosters, communiques, debarkation instructions, morning orders, landing plans, plans of the day, and ship's newsletters.

This collection contains the records of the former ECU News Bureau, including press releases, newspaper clippings, sound recordings of programming, and information about East Carolina gaining university status.
