This collection (c. 1880-2001) contains the papers of three generations of U.S. Navy officers whose service covered the years 1891 through 1963. Correspondence, orders, reports, photographs, certificates, publications, a diary, ships histories, clippings and reminiscences document their careers and that of Waldron McLellon's uncle who served in the U.S. Navy from 1934 through 1952. Waldron M. McLellon graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1941 and copious material relates to the lives of the USNA Class of 1941 members through 2001. Other papers concern the genealogy of Waldron McLellon's family.

Papers of Robert Penn Warren (1885-2008 [Bulk: 1940-1989], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Guthrie, Kentucky-born American poet, novelist, playwright, biographer, and educator, who played a major role in the rise of the Fugitive and Agrarian literary movements and in the spread of the New Criticism during the mid-20th century, and who became the first poet laureate of the United States, including correspondence; manuscripts, photographic prints, proofs of published materials, printed material, loose manuscript items from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, audio recordings and oversized materials, by or about Robert Penn Warren, Cleanth Brooks, John Ciardi, Annie Dillard, Fred Chappell, Richard Ghormley Eberhart, Robert Frost, George Garrett, Randall Jarrell, Robert Lowell, Bernard Malamud, Albert J. Montesi, John Crowe Ransom, Theodore Roethke, William Carlos Williams, and others; in English, Dutch, and Latin language.

Correspondence (1894-1966, bulk 1931-1946) between Irving Sherwood Preston and his fiancée (later his wife) Alice Ann Moore of Concord, North Carolina. Preston and Moore married on June 9, 1933. During the bulk of this correspondence, Preston was attending Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia (1931-1933) and serving (1943-1945) in the military during World War II. Also included are letters from family, friends, and associates, especially the earlier letters. Letters written by Preston to his family prior to 1933 document his life at Mount Pleasant Military Collegiate Institute at Mount Pleasant, North Carolina. Other early letters are between Preston's parents (Sherwood Craig Preston and Ida Lillian MacKelvie) prior to their marriage. There are a few photographs and negatives and some ephemera such as a theater broadsheet for "The College Flapper" being produced at the Kannapolis HIgh School Building in Kannapolis, North Carolina, and sponsored by the Kannapolis Woman's Club.
