Papers (1894-1901, 1958-1974, 2009, undated) of a U. S. naval officer (Rear Admiral), graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, 1872, who served as commander of the European Squadron, 1895, and Mare Island Navy Yard, 1898, and consisting of correspondence, newspaper clippings, genealogical tables, a poem, photographs, and miscellaneous.

The Alice Morgan Person collection (1874-1943, 2004-2008) contains ledgers, testimonials, advertisements, correspondence, and news clippings related to the Mrs. Joe Person Remedy Company. The Remedy was developed by Alice M. Person (Mrs. Joe Person) of Franklinton, Charlotte, and Kittrell, North Carolina, and marketed by her and later her son Rufus M. Person. Other material pertains to the sale of her arrangements of popular songs, and to family life.

The Karel B. Absolon Collection is comprised of Absolon family papers and Karel B. Absolon's research and collecting interest, particularly Theodor Billroth. The papers relating to Absolon's family span three generations and include Karel B. Absolon, Karel Absolon, Willibald Absolon, and Jaroslav Bakes (a cousin to Karel Absolon). Karel B. Absolon's primary research interest was Austrian abdominal surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894). Absolon also collected items related to European, primarily men, in the science field. The collection includes correspondence, translations, prints, photographs, articles, ephemera, and original documents.

Papers (1945-1949 [Bulk 1945]) consisting of black & white photographic prints taken by U.S. Army Master Sergeant Alvis Whitted Mewborn in France, Germany, and Austria, during his service in the 131st Evacuation Hospital, 11th Armored Division, U.S. Third Army, during World War II, featuring photographs of Mauthausen Concentration Camp & Camp Gusen #1, near Mauthausen, Austria, where the Germans held mainly Italian but also Russian and Serbian prisoners of war about 9,000 of whom died in the camp; including views of the prisoners, alive and dead, the underground Messerschmitt factory, the quarry, the railroad siding, the camp cemetery and camp chapel built by the Americans after they liberated the camp; care and treatment of the survivors, etc.; Palais de Chaillot, in Paris, France; Ulm Cathedral in Ulm, Germany; St. Florian's Monastery near Enns, Austria; also views of homes belonging to Hermann Goering and Adolf Hitler at Berchtesgaden, Germany; street scenes and the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France; and post-war Mewborn family and fishing scenes in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.

Papers of William Goyen (1935-1999, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Trinity, Texas-born, American novelist, short story writer, poet, playwright, editor and educator at several schools, including Brown University; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including manuscripts, notes and clippings by or about William Goyen, D. H. Lawrence, Merriam Golden, Stephen Spender, and others; also including printed materials.

Papers (1936-1953, undated) including bound volumes, daybooks, and copies of deeds, etc. relating to the prominent Eastern North Carolina family. 8 items.

Papers of George Garrett (1930-2009 [Bulk: 1960-2009], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Orlando, Florida-born American poet and novelist, consisting of audio recordings, correspondence, manuscripts of poems by, about, or relating to George Garrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Carolyn Chute, Larry McMurtry, Ned O'Gorman, Henry S. Taylor & others; also including notes, oversized materials, photographic prints, printed forms, proofs of published works, loose manuscript materials transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, & printed materials; in English & French language.

Major General Charles Justin Bailey was born at Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, on June 21, 1859. He commanded the 81st Infantry Division, American Expeditionary Forces, fighting in France during 1918 and 1919. Bailey compiled this album during 1918 and 1919 and it contains postcards of French and German towns and provinces; a few letters; photographs of France and the 81st Division including behind the lines scenes, Camp Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, and identified officers and dignitaries; clippings and ephemera; and eight large color fold-out maps. The strength of the collection is its representation of World War I in France.

Papers of James Dickey (1950-1994) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Atlanta, Georgia-born American poet, novelist and essayist, including correspondence, manuscripts, photographic prints, proofs of published works, reviews of published materials, printed material, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection and oversized materials, by or about James Dickey, Louis Untermeyer, and others.

This genealogy collection includes photocopied details on over 50 families in or around Beaufort County, North Carolina, including, but not limited to, family crests, biographies, Official First Families of North Carolina memberships and applications for membership (OFFNC), wills, land deeds, cemetery location information, family newsletters, pedigree charts, birth and death certificates, marriage licenses/deeds, census data, descendant lists, and photographs. Much information can be found for the Blount, Bowen, Bryan, Clark, Godley, Hunter, Little, and Galloway family lines. Extensive information can be found for the Hardy/Hardee and Ross family lines.
