Collection (1803-1996) pertaining to Martin County, NC, farmer John Conrad Getsinger, Sr., (Nov. 4, 1812-Jan. 16, 1891), a native of Wurttemburg, Germany, and several of his descendants consisting of correspondence, memoranda books, a sketchbook created by Mr. Getsinger while he was a soldier (1847-1848) fighting in the Mexican War, financial records, Civil War records pertaining to Mr. Getsinger and his son John C. Getsinger, Jr., religious publications, Primitive Baptist Church records (especially for Smithwick's Creek Primitive Baptist Church), pamphlets, broadsides, photographs, legal papers, newspaper clippings, and miscellany.

In 1972, Evelyn McNeill was offered a position as an assistant professor of anatomy at East Carolina University School of Medicine (renamed Brody School of Medicine in 1999). She was hired to teach neuroanatomy to medical students as well as physical and occupational therapy students. During her career at the medical school (1972-2001), Evelyn opened her home to students. She began traditions of hosting an end-of-first-year party and another for Halloween. Included in this collection are personal photographs from these parties, historical photographs of the growth and development of the school of medicine, newspaper clippings of medical student announcements, and medical school class photos and rosters during the period of 1972 to 2004.

This collection consists of a WWII diary (October 5, 1942-March 9, 1943) kept by Lt. Thomas M. Clement during his service aboard the USS Philadelphia, newspaper clippings concerning the Philadelphia, citations of service for Clement, leave passes, morning orders, and the Sixth Birthday Edition of the History of the Philadelphia (September 23, 1943) which was printed aboard ship. Clement's diary documents the Philadelphia's service during the Invasion of North Africa, especially the assault on Safi and Casablanca.

Papers of George Garrett (1930-2009 [Bulk: 1960-2009], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Orlando, Florida-born American poet and novelist, consisting of audio recordings, correspondence, manuscripts of poems by, about, or relating to George Garrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Carolyn Chute, Larry McMurtry, Ned O'Gorman, Henry S. Taylor & others; also including notes, oversized materials, photographic prints, printed forms, proofs of published works, loose manuscript materials transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, & printed materials; in English & French language.

Papers (1930-1943 undated) consisting of correspondence, bills, petitions, speeches, reports, etc., relating to legislative career, gasoline tax, fishing laws, legislative bills, creation of state motor vehicles department, and reports of NC Agricultural Extension service.

Papers (ca. 1923-1978, undated [bulk: 1955-1975]) of a prominent Greenville, North Carolina attorney and Democratic Party activist, who served as administrative assistant to U. S. Senator Samuel J. Ervin, Jr., 1955-1975, notably during the Watergate Scandal, and including personal, social, business and political files, photographic prints, and oversized materials relating to his life in Washington, DC, and North Carolina. Also contains information related to the life of his wife Marie Hardee Spain, a Greenville, North Carolina, native.

Collection (1902-2003) of genealogical and historical research files compiled by John Henry Oden III. Also includes the R. C. Chadwick Mercantile Records, Claude F. Pilley Papers, and the Windley Family Papers. Papers (1946-1948) obtained by Richard Dillard Dixon, Jr., while visiting his father Richard Dillard Dixon, Sr., who participated in the of International Military Tribunal (for Nazi war crimes) held in Nuremberg, Germany, as a member of the judges Secretariat and as a judge. Included are mimeographed transcripts of some of the trials and related manuscripts, press releases, and wall charts delineating the hierarchy of Nazi German government and military system. Other papers (1870-1970) concern the life of Edenton, N.C., attorney, insurance agent, wholesale oil salesman and civic activist Richard Dillard Dixon, Jr.

This collection (1924-2000) contains material related to the marketing of products produced by the Empire Brush Company of Greenville, North Carolina. Included are catalogues, price lists, marketing programs, advertising stickers and product wrappings, and original materials used in planographic printing of product wrappings. Although Empire Brush moved its manufacturing facility to Greenville Industrial Park in 1964, the collection also contains items relating to its pre-1964 years and some to Rubbermaid which bought Empire Brush out in 1994.
