Professional and personal correspondence, newspaper clippings, press releases, reports, and miscellany for the period 1944 through 2011, bulk dates 1962 to 1982, related to the career of Janice Hardison Faulkner at East Carolina University, with the Democratic Party in North Carolina and as the holder of several high level positions in North Carolina government.

This collection contains the papers of Halifax Co., North Carolina, Superior Court Clerk John Tillery Gregory (1832-1905) and also includes correspondence with his sister and his children. Gregory operated a store with W. W. Daniels, was Clerk of Superior Court for many years, was town treasurer, and fought in the Civil War with Co G of the 12th North Carolina State Troops. The son of Dr. Thomas Wynns Gregory and Mary Tillery Gregory, he was married to Ellen Augusta Clarke and they had nine children.

Correspondence (1852-1936) between related members of the Arthur, Burgess, Tuten, and Whitford families of Ernul and Askins in Craven County, Kinston, and Durham's Creek, North Carolina, makes up the majority of this collection. Two letters (1862-1865) originate from Fort Fisher, North Carolina, during the American Civil War. Other letters originate from Greenville, Plymouth, Washington, and New Bern, North Carolina. Also included are clippings, poetry, lyrics, a genealogical typescript listing the descendants of James Gilbert Gatlin, Jr., undated land plats and surveys, and an 1882 land indenture.

Papers of Robert Penn Warren (1885-2008 [Bulk: 1940-1989], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Guthrie, Kentucky-born American poet, novelist, playwright, biographer, and educator, who played a major role in the rise of the Fugitive and Agrarian literary movements and in the spread of the New Criticism during the mid-20th century, and who became the first poet laureate of the United States, including correspondence; manuscripts, photographic prints, proofs of published materials, printed material, loose manuscript items from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, audio recordings and oversized materials, by or about Robert Penn Warren, Cleanth Brooks, John Ciardi, Annie Dillard, Fred Chappell, Richard Ghormley Eberhart, Robert Frost, George Garrett, Randall Jarrell, Robert Lowell, Bernard Malamud, Albert J. Montesi, John Crowe Ransom, Theodore Roethke, William Carlos Williams, and others; in English, Dutch, and Latin language.

Collection (1899-2010, undated) of manuscripts, clippings and printed materials, etc. relating to Mamie Ella Pittman Hardee, 1880-1962, who taught in the Enfield and Whitakers, N.C., public schools, 1901-1925, and to the Hardee, Pittman and related families of Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina.
