Other material concerns the Wharton and Conrad families of Clemmonsville, North Carolina, in Davidson County, who are also related by marriage to the Grimes family.

African American servicemembers in photographs are assumed to be members of the 51st Defense Battalion, commonly refered to as the Montford Point Marines, the first African American unit in the Marine Corp. Also included in the collection are photographs of white Marine Corps members as well as a number of unidentified personal photographs, many of which depict African American women and children.
