Collection (1900 - 1983, undated [Bulk: 1936 - 1940]) of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographic prints, printed forms, ephemera, printed materials, oversized materials, etc. relating to the life and career of William J. Croom (1901-1940) as a patrolman in Kinston, North Carolina, a member of the first North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Greensboro, N.C., and Director of Public Safety in Durham, N.C.; Also included are Croom and Peed family genealogical files and photographs.

Papers of Fred Chappell (1952-2017, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Canton, North Carolina-born American educator, short story writer, novelist, and educator, whose writing focus on Southern themes, consisting of correspondence, holographs, typescripts, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, photographic prints, proofs of published works, audio recordings, printed materials & oversized materials; also including Chappell's correspondence with George Garrett, Stuart Wright and Wallace Fowlie, a clipping and a print of his poem The Collector (2011) written in honor of Stuart Wright, and a painting by Fritz Janschka.

Papers (1947-1960) including correspondence, references concern Bible, auditing of books, school events, receipts, pilgrims, and miscellaneous.

Papers of Richard Yates (1977) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Yonkers, New York-born American novelist and short story writer, who chronicled the "age of anxiety" and was a creative writing educator at the University of Southern California, and other universities; consisting of bound uncorrected galley proofs of The Easter Parade: A Novel (1977).

Papers of May Sarton (1973) the noted Belgian-born American poet, novelist, and essayist, who wrote of life's personal trials and struggles; consisting of spiral bound, paperback, galley proofs of her novel As We Are Now: A Novel, by May Sarton (1973).

This collection contains documents (1821-1994, bulk 1860s-1910s) related to the Newsom family, especially Marion Eaton Newsom, of Littleton, Warren and Halifax Counties, North Carolina. Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, financial papers, and a family history written by Marion E. Newsom (1909, addendum 1911) about the Newsom and Nicholson families. Some material also relates to the Whitaker and Heptinstall families. A large part of this collection also documents the history of Littleton and institutions there such as schools, churches, and Littleton Female College.

Papers of Philip [Milton] Roth (1981) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Newark, New Jersey-born American novelist and short story writer, consisting of galley proofs ofZukerman Unbound, by Philip Roth (New York, NY: Farrar, Straus, and Giroux, ©1981); also a holograph note card.

This collection contains records of Eric G. Flannagan & Sons architectural firm that relate to capital projects on the East Carolina campus.

Papers (1927-1962, 1974) including correspondence, clippings, photographs, copies of an annual, 2 crewbooks, speeches, programs, citations and menus reflecting career.

Included are eighteen photographs of American Expeditionary Force troops in athletic competition possibly taken at Andernach, Germany, in 1919. The photographs range in size roughly from 4" x 6 3/4" to 4 1/2" x 9" and 6 1/2" x 9", and three are duplicates taken at different light settings. Four different photographs show General John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing reviewing the troops and the remainder show the troops involved in sporting events such as a sack race, tug of war, sprints, and relays. Two of the photographs bear the photographer's mark of F. A. Ritter, Andernach.

This collection contains material documenting the life of James Long Newsom, Sr., (1914-2007) of Durham, North Carolina. A graduate of Duke University and Duke University Law School and attended Syracuse University Law School, he began practicing law in Durham in 1938. Correspondence (1931-1940) documents his post-high school education and courtship of his future wife Frances Martin whom he met at Syracuse. As a member of the United States Naval Reserve, he fought in the South Pacific for the years 1942-1945 during World War II and this experience is covered with extensive correspondence, photographs, souvenirs, programs and military newspapers. After the war, he returned to his law practice and continued his Naval Reserve career. Also included are diplomas, certificates, family-related photographs (back to the 1910s), clippings, and genealogy.

Records (1936-2024) including correspondence, historical writings, letterhead, address lists, membership applications with supporting documents, minutes, financial records, brochures, pamphlets, periodicals and yearbooks of the North Carolina Chapter and The Gazette of the General Society of Colonial Wars, the Society of the Daughters of Colonial Wars in the State of North Carolina yearbooks and the by-laws and yearbooks of the General Society of Colonial Wars.
