Rep. Howard Chapin Papers (1947-2000) primarily pertaining to his nine terms in the North Carolina General Assembly from Washington, NC, 1974-1992, including personal correspondence, clippings, materials relating to his service on committees, and artifacts he received relating to the bicentennials of Washington, NC and the United States, 1975-76.
Papers (1873-[1887-1901]-1958) of a Black lawyer, minister and teacher, in New Bern, N.C., who handled pension applications for many African Americans who served in the Union Army and Navy during the Civil War or their widows, consisting of pension affidavit ledgers, pension certificate ledgers, correspondence, pamphlets, daybooks, photographs, poetry, essays, application forms, tax receipts, etc.
Papers (1861 - 2025, undated) documenting the archaeological excavations of the Confederate defensive fortifications, river obstructions and fish trap on the River Neuse below Kinston, NC, and the Confederate ironclad ram CSS Neuse, relating to Capt. Joseph H. Price, commander of the CSS Neuse, and relating to Lenoir County, N.C., history in general including correspondence, notes, photographic prints and negatives (black and white), and publications.
Records (May 1940-November 1945) include mainly correspondence between Thomas William Linder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and his girlfriend (later wife) Evelyn Doris Hill of Cayce, South Carolina. Mr. Linder worked for the railroad and later in life was an engineer with Amtrak. The letters from April 1942 through August 1945 document his service in the U.S. Army with the 816th Engineer Aviation Battalion during World War II. He was promoted to corporal in September 1942. Other items include two photographs, holiday cards, a pay stub and a poem.
The Robin Brabham Collection (1862-1866, 1976, undated) consists of materials from several Civil War soldiers adn civilians, including documents relating to Thomas Midgett of Croatan, North Carolina, containing an oath, a parole and safe conduct documents issued by a Union Army officer, in 1862-1864; also documents, 1863-1866, related to several Union Army soldiers, including records of Major N. H. Foster of 1st Battalion, 12th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery; Lt. Col. H. A. Oakman of 30th Regiment U.S. Colored Troops and; also certificates of discharge by reason of death for members of Co. A., 2nd Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Artillery.
Collection [1733-1975] including correspondence, cemetery records, deed books, court records, militia records; copies and originals of indenture, estate lists, wills, land grants, Bible records, and miscellaneous.
Papers (1942-1947) include correspondence related to the World War II U.S. Navy careers of Frank A. Bartimo and his brother-in-law Richard Toomey, and Bartimo's civilian life with the Army's Judge Advocate section stationed in post-war Heidelberg, Germany.

Marine Corps aviation officer (Major Gen.) who served in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, and who retired as commander of the Cherry Point, NC Marine Air Station, including correspondence, reports, war diaries, citations, certificates, and military records. Papers of William Alexander Percy (2016) concerning the wealthy Greenville, Mississippi-raised planter, lawyer, noted poet and memoirist, whose father, Leroy Percy, served as U. S. Senator from Mississippi, 1910-1913; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume of Percy's poems, entitled Enzio's Kingdom and Other Poems; also Stuart Wright's note that he gave the book to commemorate George Core's retirement as editor of Sewanee Review (2016); also Stuart Wright's email correspondence with Percy's biographer, Benjamin E. Wise, and East Carolina University faculty members, Thomas Douglass, and Maurice C. York regarding Wise's collection of works by Percy (2016).
Original material collected by Horace H. Mewborn, Jr. including printed maps, letters, diaries, clippings, cartes de visite, tintypes, an ambrotype, memoir, ledgers, reports, and drawings related to the Civil War especially pertaining to Col. John S. Mosby and his 43rd Virginia Cavalry Battalion, Col. Elijah V. White and his 35th Virginia Cavalry Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry Units, and the battles fought in the New Bern, NC, vicinity. Also included is his voluminous research related to the above listed units and the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of the South.
