This collection (1913, 1926, undated) of notes, correspondence, and reports were found in a book titled A City Plan for Raleigh : Being a Report to the Civic Department of the Woman's Club of Raleigh, N. C. / by Charles Mulford Robinson published in 1913. Included are a report related to the civic beautification plan for Raleigh, North Carolina (ca. 1913); a letter (1926) from E. B. Jeffress, mayor of Greensboro, NC, describing recent civic improvements; and a 1926 Report of Conditions on Newbern Ave. and Hillsboro Street in Raleigh, by T. L. Mulford for the North Carolina State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Collection consists of a two volumes titled "Journal of a Cruise from Norfolk, Virginia to the Pacific Ocean in the United States Frigate United States, Isaac Hull, Esq'r, Commander" kept by Philadelphian midshipman Lawrence Penington from 4 December 1823, through 22 April 1827. United States was one of six frigates authorized to be constructed by the Naval Act of 1794 and it served as the flagship for Commodore Hull who was head of the American naval squadron on the Pacific Coast of South America. Penington documents navigation statistics, weather reports and daily ship life, along with the larger issues of interaction between the American naval squadron and British, Spanish, Chilean, Colombian and Peruvian naval and military counterparts.

Papers (1865-2013, bulk 1919-1982) relating to Georgia Pearsall Hearne, an artist, musician, and teacher, whose portraits of prominent North Carolinians earned her state-wide recognition, including consisting of correspondence, daybooks, photographs, original artwork, reproductions of art work, newspaper clippings, printed forms, printed materials, genealogical materials, and miscellany.

Collection (1899-1957 [Bulk: 1899-1954]) of diaries by Rev. J.G. Cassel, a Brethren of Christ missionary in Guatemala, 1899-1957; also an untitled history of missionary work in Guatemala by William Haymaker, written in 1947, describing his missionary career, 1887-1947. 8 vols. Diary (Sept. 1943-Dec. 1944) of Joseph John Valinsky, a sailor aboard the USS Monterey, kept during World War II duty in the Pacific, along with correspondence, certificates, and military service identification cards.

Collection (1871-1970, undated) including correspondence, photographs, postcards, and printed material relating to the Stancill Family.

This collection (1821-2007) contains several groups of family history-related papers concerning eastern North Carolina and a large number of unrelated miscellaneous items such as photographs, church records, Bible records, and rare printed items on a variety of subjects. The majority of the family papers concern the Croom and Whitfield families of Lenoir County, N.C. Other family papers concern the Harvey family of Greene County, N.C., the Jordan and Waters families of Washington, N.C., the Meeks family of Pitt County, the Outlaw family of Lenoir County and the Thompson family of Georgia. A large part of this collection concerns the Ficklen family of Greenville, N.C., including scrapbooks, diaries, an autograph book and a post card collection. Some items concern the colorful poet, magazine editor, railroad speculator, paper mill owner, Civil War blockade-runner, and sea captain Appleton Oaksmith who lived in Carteret County, N.C., for fifteen years (1872-1887). Also included are ambrotype photographs of Confederate Civil War soldiers James Needham Alexander, who served in Company A, 11th North Carolina Troops (Infantry) and Stanhope Washington Alexander, who served in Company H, 35th North Carolina Regiment.

Letters and ephemera (1926-1929) related to the life of Agnes Wadlington [Barrett], who was born in Trigg County, Kentucky in 1902, before she took a job at East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University) as secretary to the president of the college. Also found with these papers are many photographs of members of the Putnam family of Murray, Kentucky. The only connection between Mrs. Barrett and the Putnam family appears to be that both she and Louise Vey Putnam Carter's husband Herbert Leland Carter both worked at East Carolina University. An 1982 engagement calendar kept by Mrs. Barrett documents her life during retirement in Greenville, North Carolina.

Joyner Library at East Carolina University, in October 1973, prior to the construction of two extra floors and the addition of a new west wing to the building, for Library Science 1000 class; also photocopies of correspondence, historical research reports, and newspaper clippings about the Greenville Town Common Confederate flags controversy, in 1983–1989; also photocopies of newspaper clippings about the Confederate flag, 1983–1989. Collection also contains 4 photographs of individuals from the Collins-Becton family.
