Papers (1849-1899) including correspondence, poems, essays, map, etc. relating to life before, during, and after the Civil War.

This collection (1966-2011) consists of papers, ephemera, and printed oversize materials related to Democratic and Republican party politics in North Carolina that document elections and Chester Julian (C.J.) Hyatt's involvement in politics. There is also material related to George C. Wallace's campaign for president in 1968, 1972, and 1976. Hyatt was state chairman for Wallace's run in 1976.

Karl Edwards Hardee and his wife Clara Jane Cherry Hardee, both Pitt County natives and parents of the donor of this collection Karl Wayne Hardee, were very involved with the Red Banks Home Demonstration Club and the Eastern Pines Men's Fellowship Club. This collection consists of three large scrapbooks documenting the activities of the Red Banks Demonstration Club and the Eastern Pines Men's Fellowship Club in Pitt County, North Carolina, for 1956, 1957, and 1958. Annual reports, clippings, event programs and photographs of members, social gatherings and properties that were cleaned-up document the contributions of these groups to the Pitt County Progress Program.

This collection contains copies of Freshman Orientation Programs and New Student Orientation programs.

Papers from Wayne Williams while he was writing "Beginning of the School of Medicine at East Carolina University". Includes typescripts from interviews Williams conducted, newspaper articles about history of hospital, information on Pitt County Memorial Hospital (previously Vidant, now ECU Health) Board of Trustees and Foundation, general source material on nursing, and drafts of book.

This collection contains a seventeen-page letter from medical missionary Herbert P. Ramsey writing from Soochow, China, in 1924 about his experiences as surgeon at Soochow Hospital. Also included is a letter written in 1927 by his brother William H. Ramsey describing the recent escape of Herbert Ramsey and his family from Soochow in the face of anti-Western instigators.

Papers (2/23/1862 - 12/26/1868) consisting of a pocket notebook belonging to James H. Mills, Sergeant of Company I, 44th Regiment North Carolina Troops, the "Eastern Tigers," a unit recruited in Pitt County, including orders, inventories, muster and supplies lists related to the Civil War and a few post-war account records.

These papers (1848-1882) belonged to Johnson H. Bryan, Jr.(1824-1883) of Craven County, North Carolina. Included are deeds, statements of debt and obligation, receipts, receipts for purchase and sale of enslaved people, correspondence, mortgages, bankruptcy papers, and a resolution of complaint related to tariff discriminations and maintenance deficiencies on the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad.

Papers (1760 [1880] - 1935) including correspondence, financial papers, account books, daybooks, essays, speeches, legal records, land records, notebooks, etc. of Eastern North Carolina farmer, leader of the NC Tobacco Growers Association, and NC Secretary of State (1901-1923), etc.

This collection contains the Department of Addictions and Rehabilitation Studies' archived website.

The collection includes letters (July 1918-March 1919) written by family members and friends in Jamesville, Martin County, North Carolina, to Asa J. Hardison while he was in World War I service with a medical detachment at Camp Greenleaf at Fort Oglethorpe in Chickamauga Park in Georgia and then at Camp Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina. Also included are two letters (1909-1910) written by Maggie Roberson (Martha Ann Whitley Roberson) of Jamesville to her brother.
