This collection contains clippings, signed petitions, correspondence, filed notes, and blueprints. There are indications that the material may have originated with N.C. State Geologist Joseph Hyde Pratt.

Papers of Maurice Sendak (1982-1986) documenting the life and literary career the famed Brooklyn, New York-born American artist, illustrator and writer of children's books; consisting of partial, non-consecutive, uncorrected bound proofs of Nutcracker (1984) the fantasy by E. T. A. [Ernst Theodor Amadeus] Hoffmann (1776-1822) that became the basis of the ballet of the same name by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893); translated by Ralph [Frederick] Manheim (1907-1992); pictures by Maurice Sendak; also including loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled The Art of Maurice Sendak (1982-1985), by Selma G. Lanes, including letters by and about Maurice Sendak to Stuart Wright.

John L. Porter's notebook (Pensacola, Fla., 1860), blueprint, photocopies of blueprints, newspaper clippings and photographic print, relating to U.S. Navy ship construction and C.S. ship construction, including drawings of CSS Virginia (USS Merrimac) and other ships; Porter family genealogy, ca. 1860-1936.

The collection includes papers and publications produced or related to the administration of John Decatur Messick. Materials include biographical records, correspondence, articles, newspaper clippings, administrative records, and other miscellaneous items.

This collection includes a scrapbook of clippings (1906-1954) kept by Charlotte Pearl Murphy Wright, the wife of Robert Herring Wright who was the first president of East Carolina University (known then as East Carolina Teachers Training School and later East Carolina Teachers College) in Greenville, North Carolina. Also included are correspondence, announcements related to family affairs, photographs, and genealogy notes (also a few deeds, and bills of sale for enslaved persons) related to the Murphy, and Wright families of Sampson County, N.C., and the Cromartie and Alderman families.

Papers of Walter Sullivan (1987-1989) documenting the life and career of the Nashville, Tennessee-born American novelist, literary critic, and English professor at Vanderbilt University; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled A Requiem for the Renascence: The State of Fiction in the Modern South, by Walter Sullivan (1976); including Sullivan's letters to Stuart Wright regarding his book collection, 1987-1989.

Papers of George Garrett (1930-2009 [Bulk: 1960-2009], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Orlando, Florida-born American poet and novelist, consisting of audio recordings, correspondence, manuscripts of poems by, about, or relating to George Garrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Carolyn Chute, Larry McMurtry, Ned O'Gorman, Henry S. Taylor & others; also including notes, oversized materials, photographic prints, printed forms, proofs of published works, loose manuscript materials transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, & printed materials; in English & French language.

Diaries (1938-1950) of an anonymous Englishwoman written during part of her time as an Anglican missionary in Kenya and Rhodesia. The content of the journals consists primarily of the author's reflections and ideas regarding Christianity. She briefly reflects upon the events of World War II. Also included are to-do lists, logs of her time spent in prayer, and notations regarding travels, and the anniversaries, birthdays, and deaths of friends and family.

The collection contains the papers of Lavinia "Venie" Roberts (1833-1923), a native of New Bern, North Carolina who wrote an unpublished memoir of her experience during the Civil War. In addition to the memoir, the collection includes material documenting the history of New Bern, the life of wealthy white Southerners during the Antebellum and Reconstruction periods, the lives of those enslaved from the point of view of their enslavers, the efforts of the United Daughters of the Confederacy in New Bern, and genealogical material related to the Cole and Roberts family.

This collection contains two unrelated photograph albums of missionary and Y. M. C. A. related photographs of China. Some of the places captured are Taiyuanfu, Wu Ch'eng, Shanghai, Chin SSu, Tientsin, and Peiping. Note that not all the photographs are dated but each has a caption. The collection is estimated to date between the 1920s and 1930s.
