Collection includes a letter written by Ann Elizabeth Bogart, Washington, N.C., to "My dear Aunt," January 8, 1865, describing wartime conditions in Washington, N.C., and vicinity, a 2-page partial transcription of the letter, a tintype of a woman (possibly Ann Elizabeth Bogart), and two color images of the gravestone for Ann Bogart and the plot where she is buried in Washington, N.C. Also included are research materials concerning David Nevius Bogart of Washington, N.C., and related to the Bogart, Biggs, O'Cain, Lucas, Bonner, Peyton, and Snoad families of Beaufort County, N.C. Photographs, genealogy notes, Bible records, and correspondence relate to the Smallwood, Williams, and Hassell families of Williamston, N.C. Letters related to brothers Will and Bruce Smallwood discuss Will's travels and death (1918) in Alaska and Bruce's life and death (after 1894) in Mexico.

Photograph album documents missionary life in Bolenge, Congo Free State (now Democratic Republic of the Congo), at the Disciples of Christ Congo Mission in 1935 and 1936. Photographs also illustrate everyday life among the Indigenous people of Congolese.

The 2nd Field Artillery of the New York National Guard was called to the border with Mexico in 1916 as part of the Expedition to catch Pancho Villa. This panoramic photograph is of the unit while stationed at McAllen, Texas, and it was owned by Christopher Ballentine Fisher of Brooklyn, New York. He later fought in World War I.

Memoir entitled "Recollections of a Year in Thailand, 5 July 1971 – 4 July 1972," by Ashby D. Elmore, Capt., USAF, describing his service during the Vietnam War as an Intelligence Officer in the U. S. Air Force's 432nd Reconnaissance Technical Squadron, at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base in northeastern Thailand. Photocopy typescript.

Interview with retired science teacher, from Washington County, NC, whose father was director of prisons for State of North Carolina, who attended East Carolina Teachers College, worked in the Federal Bureau of Investigations crime lab, Washington, DC, taught science at Pantego High School, Pantego, NC, 1961-1968, and Pungo Christian Academy, Beaufort County, NC, 1968-1989. This collection (1913, 1926, undated) of notes, correspondence, and reports were found in a book titled A City Plan for Raleigh : Being a Report to the Civic Department of the Woman's Club of Raleigh, N. C. / by Charles Mulford Robinson published in 1913. Included are a report related to the civic beautification plan for Raleigh, North Carolina (ca. 1913); a letter (1926) from E. B. Jeffress, mayor of Greensboro, NC, describing recent civic improvements; and a 1926 Report of Conditions on Newbern Ave. and Hillsboro Street in Raleigh, by T. L. Mulford for the North Carolina State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Papers (1938-1994) of Captain James P. Lynch (USN ret.) a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1941, including correspondence, programs and leaflets (1938-67); clippings (1944-94); printed forms (1940-75); and photographic prints (1943-68).

This collection consists of items taken from a Japanese sailor during World War II when he was taken prisoner after being shipwrecked in the East China Sea off Okinawa.

The Teachers Training Quarterly includes ten volumes of four issues each beginning in 1914 and ending in 1923 when the quarterly was replaced by the yearbook and student newspaper.
