Warning: This collection contains content that may be offensive to users. Collection covers the administrative term of Leo W. Jenkins as chief executive of East Carolina University. Speeches, correspondence, and publications include East Carolina gaining University status, the foundation of a medical school, the transition of athletics into Division I, and the growth of the campus.

Collection (1848-2002) of Pace family papers, including documents; photograph and postcard albums; scrapbooks; loose photographs, deeds, legal documents, and newspaper clippings; printed yearbooks, catalogs, textbooks, and newspapers; genealogical charts, postcards, brochures, World War I Army Medical Corps documents, and ephemera relating to physician Dr. Karl Busbee Pace, Sr. and his sons, Dr. Karl B. Pace, Jr., Charles Taylor Pace, and J. T. W."Tommy" Pace and their families in Robeson, Chatham and Pitt counties, NC.

Personal Correspondence (December 30, 1861-September 16, 1862; April 1863) written by William Wilberforce Douglas to his family members during his service in the Fifth Rhode Island Volunteers and in General Ambrose Burnside's Expeditionary Corps in North Carolina. Letters, copied by his mother, Sarah Sawyer Douglas, from originals into a single bound journal, include references to his time at the battles of Roanoke Island, New Bern, and Fort Macon. Additionally, the journal includes newspaper clippings accounting his exploits in the war.

This collection (1924-2000) contains material related to the marketing of products produced by the Empire Brush Company of Greenville, North Carolina. Included are catalogues, price lists, marketing programs, advertising stickers and product wrappings, and original materials used in planographic printing of product wrappings. Although Empire Brush moved its manufacturing facility to Greenville Industrial Park in 1964, the collection also contains items relating to its pre-1964 years and some to Rubbermaid which bought Empire Brush out in 1994.

Papers (1963-2010) of East Carolina University History professor, 1969-2001, including correspondence; teaching notes and course syllabi for ECU History courses; drafts and manuscripts of papers, and publications; conference travel materials and professional association materials; lectures materials; University and History Department committees and activity files; materials concerning his education; and materials related to his participation in the Lutheran Church. English and German language.

This collection contains the records of the former ECU News Bureau, including press releases, newspaper clippings, sound recordings of programming, and information about East Carolina gaining university status.

Papers of John Updike (1946-2010, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Reading, Pennsylvania-born American novelist, poet, short story writer, art and literary critic, cartoonist, golfer and golf writer; including manuscripts and manuscript volumes, correspondence, clippings, photographic materials; also including drafts & proofs of published materials, including interviews for Writers at Work: Seventh Paris Review; original art; loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection; also oversized materials.

Papers (1942-1945) including correspondence, picture, Christmas card, references of shortage of beer and cigarettes.

Papers (1788-1869, 1965) Hoyle J. Windley, of Bath, NC, a teacher, postmaster, and lieutenant in the NC militia, and his children, consisting of correspondence, store accounts, receipts, promissory notes, wills, summonses, bill of sale, special events-major fire, tournaments, coronation Ball, etc.

U.S. Navy papers (1943-1945), primarily for the USS Chilton, USS Lyon, and USS Calvert, including training materials, rosters, communiques, debarkation instructions, morning orders, landing plans, plans of the day, and ship's newsletters.

Papers (1861-1864) including correspondence, letters, account of duties, detailed description of USS Brandywine, etc.

A collection (ca. 1885-1918, undated) of 55 cartes de visite and cabinet cards mounted on cardboard, a scrapbook containing 11 snapshots, a manuscript, and printed materials belonging to John Miller Faison, a North Carolina physician, Democratic Party leader, and Congressman from the N.C. Third District between 1911 and 1915.

Papers (1858-1910) including correspondence, financial materials, common medical procedures, payments, tax listings, correspondence from insurance companies, patient entries, etc.
