Papers, 1861-2011 (bulk 1940-1992), undated, of Senator Robert Burren Morgan, an ECU alumnus and lawyer, who served the state of North Carolina in a variety of elected and appointed positions. His first elected position was clerk of court in Harnett County. He was elected to the State Senate, served as president pro tempore of the Senate, and was twice elected Attorney General of North Carolina. He served in this position until 1974, when he won the United States Senate seat vacated by Senator Samuel James "Sam" Ervin, Jr. Morgan served as United States Senator from 1975 to 1981. He returned to his law practice following an unsuccessful reelection campaign and later served as Director of the State Bureau of Investigation from 1985 until 1992. Morgan served as a member of the ECU Board of Trustees for fifteen years, including nine terms as chair in the 1960s. He helped the institution achieve university status and was instrumental in establishing the ECU School of Medicine. The collection includes series relating to Morgan's family and personal matters, North Carolina Senate Files, Attorney General Files, United States Senate Files, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Files, and Oversized Materials Files. It includes manuscripts, photographs, audio and video materials, electronic records, printed materials, and ephemera.
Collection, 1908-1989 (bulk 1914-1945) reflecting the life and activities of Chicago businessman, attorney, aviator and pioneer aeronautics leader William P. MacCracken. The collection consists of correspondence, legal files, administrative files, clippings, ephemera, brochures, pamphlets and oversized materials.

Papers (1929-1974) of Rear Admiral Wilson Durward Leggett, Jr., U.S. Naval Academy graduate of 1920 and Tarboro, North Carolina, native, including correspondence, photographs and photograph album, newspaper clippings, an order book, newsletters, journals, scrapbook, etc., documenting his Naval career and work with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute School of Science and the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy.
Oral history interviews relating to his youth and his experiences, 1917-1972, as the second African-American midshipman to attend the United States Naval Academy (Class of 1941) for approximately three weeks during the summer of 1937, and his education and career as a teacher in the Washington, DC school system, 1942-1972. This collection (ca. 1909-2002) contains documents related to the career of David Jordan Whichard II of Greenville, N.C., longtime editor of The Daily Reflector and president and chief executive officer of the newspaper's publishing firm. Whichard also served on many professional boards such as the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association, the N.C. Press Association, the Associated Press Board of Directors, the UNC-Chapel Hill Board of Trustees, the ECU Board of Trustees, the UNC System Board of Governors, and on the board for Wachovia Corporation. All of these activities plus other business-related and civic-related activities are reflected in the correspondence, minutes, reports, publications, financial records, and clippings in this collection.
