Each UNC campus has a local board of trustees that holds extensive powers over academic and other operations of its campus on delegation from the Board of Governors. UNC operates under an arrangement of shared governance that leverages the collective strengths of its campus chancellors and administrators, local boards of trustees, and the UNC President and Board of Governors. The University also honors the important traditional role of the faculty in the governance of the academy. This file inclueds policy memorandums, correspondence, Board of Governors Minutes, inauguration papers for President Friday and President Spangler, reports, statements, and proposals, as well as awards and publications.

Papers of Walker Percy (1954-1997 [1975-1987]) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Birmingham, Alabama-born American novelist of the New South, consisting of three copies of a proof entitled Walker Percy: A Bibliography: 1930-1984, compiled by Stuart Wright (1985); also loose manuscript items transferred from works by Walker Percy in the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including from: Lancelot: A Novel (1977-1982), Lost in the Cosmos (1978-1997), The Message in the Bottle (1975-1983), The Movie-Goer: A Novel (1961, 1982), The Thanatos Syndrome (1987-1997), The Correspondence of Shelby Foote Walker Percy (1979-1987), The Message of Auschwitz (1987), and Walker Percy: A Bibliography, by Stuart Wright (1986) ; also including a pamphlet by Walker Percy, entitled Symbol and Need (1954).

Papers (1913 – 1953, and undated) of physician Charles E. Flowers, Sr. (1889-1962). The papers consist mainly of World War I correspondence to and from Charles E. Flowers (1917-1919). Some were written while he was in the 29th Division, 7th Army Corps, and American Expeditionary Forces. The papers also contain photographs and Flowers' medical school yearbook (1913-1917, 1940-1953).

Papers (undated) of USNA class of 1941 officers, including accounts of service in the USS PHOENIX (CL-46) and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor along with published articles he wrote on nuclear power, macro operations analysis and modern war.

Photograph album compiled by Ethel May Burt (ca. 1900) consisting primarily of photographic prints documenting Edenton, Chowan County, N.C., but also including views of various towns including Belhaven and Louisburg, N.C., and Claremont, Corbin Point, James River, and Portsmouth, Va., focusing on street scenes. Also includes also photos of families and friends; White and African American residents; the sitting rooms of Mrs. C. B. Elliott and Mrs. R. L. Temple; and images of notable sites, including Chowan County Courthouse, Dr. Richard Dillard and his front yard, Sailboat ELIZABETH, Norfolk & Southern Railway Stations and Depots, Edenton Bay, U.S. "Fish Pond" and Fish Hatchery, Bank of Edenton, Edenton Cotton Mill interior and exterior views, Methodist church, C. Letters, photographs, ephemera, maps, and printed materials (1966-1968, 1986) of U.S. Navy Hospitalman 3rd Class (HM3) in the Vietnam War relating to his training at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Great Lakes, IL; his service in Company D., 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps, in Da Nang and Phu Bai, Vietnam; and his Rest and Recreation leaves in Bangkok, Thailand, Georgetown, and Penang, Malaysia.

This collection contains hand written letters, typed printed materials, scrapbooks, genealogical research materials, and photographs relating to the Winslow and Towe families.

Papers (1865-1954, undated) consisting of correspondence, speeches, financial and legal records, a minute book, a guest register, photographs, newspapers, genealogical notes, deeds, etc., related to the career of Dr. Charles O'Hagan Laughinghouse (1871-1930) of Greenville, N.C., and to the Laughinghouse and related Stokes families. Besides having a successful practice in Greenville, Dr. Laughinghouse was a respected member of the North Carolina State Board of Health for several years beginning in 1911, served as president of the Medical Society of the State of North Carolina in 1916 and 1917, and served as State Health Officer from 1926 until his death in 1930.

Collection (1760-1940) including land grants, deeds, bill of sale of enslaved persons, correspondence, Civil War documents, and an account book, pertaining to the land holdings and genealogy of the McIver, McLeod, Lane, Crawford, Mumford, and Faison families of Moore, Chatham and Columbus counties, North Carolina.

Collection (1821-2000, undated [bulk: 1989-2000]) of correspondence, family histories, genealogical charts, copies of deeds, cemetery records, Bible records, miscellany and oversized materials relating to Christopher DeGraffenried, also known as Baron Christoph von Graffenried, who established a colony of Swiss and Palatine emigrants at New Bern, North Carolina, in 1710; and also relating to his ancestors and descendants and the DeGraffenried Association, of Gulfport, Mississippi and San Antonio, Texas, which was established to preserve the family history and to maintain contact between family members; in English, German, Italian, and French language.
