Papers of George Garrett (1930-2009 [Bulk: 1960-2009], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Orlando, Florida-born American poet and novelist, consisting of audio recordings, correspondence, manuscripts of poems by, about, or relating to George Garrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Carolyn Chute, Larry McMurtry, Ned O'Gorman, Henry S. Taylor & others; also including notes, oversized materials, photographic prints, printed forms, proofs of published works, loose manuscript materials transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, & printed materials; in English & French language.

Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867 near Millville, Indiana and his brother Orville was born in 1871. The boys owned a bicycle shop before using their experience, tools, and equipment to experiment with flight. The collection is circa 1920 and includes a pamphlet titled Essais de Wilbur Wright, Le Mans - 1908: La Conquete de l'Air / Wilbur Wright's Trial: The Conquest of the Air. The strength of this collection is the introduction and postcards detailing Wilbur Wright and his 1908 experimental and demonstration flights in Le Mans, France.

This collection consists of records (1968-1971) such as minutes, monthly reports, correspondence, and clippings related to the founding of the Coastal Plain Mental Health Advisory Board, later called the Pitt County Mental Health Authority. Also included are newsletters (1979, 1988-1993), personnel listings, brochures, an annual report (1983/1984), and retirement related items (1997) related to Dr. Stephen K. Creech's 23-year tenure as Area Director of the Pitt County Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Center in Greenville, North Carolina.

Original material collected by Horace H. Mewborn, Jr. including printed maps, letters, diaries, clippings, cartes de visite, tintypes, an ambrotype, memoir, ledgers, reports, and drawings related to the Civil War especially pertaining to Col. John S. Mosby and his 43rd Virginia Cavalry Battalion, Col. Elijah V. White and his 35th Virginia Cavalry Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry Units, and the battles fought in the New Bern, NC, vicinity. Also included is his voluminous research related to the above listed units and the Army of Northern Virginia and the Army of the South.

Organizational files (1952-2010) for the Sons of The Revolution in the State of North Carolina including minutes, annual reports, membership rosters, secretary's correspondence, financial records, reports, by-laws, newsletters, project files, publications, programs, photographs, and miscellany.

The Vertical File Collection contains individual items that don't fit into existing collections. There is no overall theme or subject connecting them. Items included vary from photographs, broadsides, pamphlets, advertising materials, programs, negatives, and postcards to land grants, genealogy notes, and a music transcription book. Inclusive dates are 1792-2016.

Berry (1968, 1980) documenting the life and literary career of the prolific Henry County, Kentucky-born American novelist, poet, environmental activist, and cultural critic, consisting of a broadside entitled The Wheel (1980), published by Palaemon Press, and The Lilies (1968), a poem published in the Southern Poetry Review, Vol. 9, no. 1 (Fall 1968) and autographed Wendell Berry on p. 3.
