Papers of Jesse Stuart (1955-1977) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Riverton, Kentucky-born American school teacher, educator, short story writer, novelist, and autobiographer consisting of a typescript of My Health is Better in November (1977) and other poems; and reprints of the poem One Body (1955) and of the short story Two Worlds (1967) by Jesse Stuart.

Papers, certificates, photos, and artifacts of Dr. Edwin Wall Monroe. This collection contains a great deal of information regarding the development of the East Carolina School of Medicine, including planning, politics, legislation, advertisement, construction, partnerships, details of the personnel involved, groundbreakings and other ceremonies, departments, additional buildings, and community services.

This collection (1884, 1908-2005) includes the papers of Helen Keel Peel (who died in 2005 at the age of 88) and her husband James Woolard Peel (who died in 1986), of Everetts in Martin County, North Carolina. Included in the collection are a diary (1934-1937); photographs; typescripts related to Helen Peel's historical research about Everetts and Martin County; correspondence, scrapbook, and autograph books related to her public school years and her 1933-1934 time at Louisburg College; scrapbooks covering the time span of ca. 1956-1994; and Bible (1836) records, especially births, for the years 1808-1851 for members of the Peel, Woolard, Ward, Martin and Barnhill families of Martin County. Also included are report cards, transcripts, and correspondence related to James Peel's public schooling and time (1931-1935) at N.C. State University; U.S. Army service-related materials for his time in the Reserves (1936) and World War II (1942-1945); memorabilia related to his membership in the Order of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; Martin County deeds and plats (1884-1972); account books (1908-1944); and remodeling plans (2000-2005) by Dr. Jesse R. Peel for his parents' house. deeds for various tracts of land in Everetts and elsewhere in Martin County, N.C., and papers (plat maps, correspondence, financial papers) that document involvement with Timberlands Unlimited, Inc., of Windsor, N.C.

Collection (25 November – 21 December 1862) including holograph letters written by 1st Lt. Frank W. Adams, Company B, 51st Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, to his sister Elizabeth in Massachusetts, describing in great detail on the regiment's departure from the Boston Harbor aboard the Steamer Merrimac, voyage to North Carolina, their arrival in Newbern [New Bern], N.C. their encounter with the 43rd Massachusetts and their participation in the Battles of Kinston and Whitehall (present day White Hall), North Carolina as part of General John G. Foster's Goldsborough [Goldsboro] Expedition; also transcript of the holograph letters and one additional letter; also folios that formerly contained the letters and transcripts. Note: the letter dated 10-21 December 1862 also contains an envelope containing remnants of the ribbons once used to bind the letters; the folder that held the transcripts is stamped inside the font cover: "Robert W. Adams Oct. 1, 1947".

Memoir (1888-1936) consisting of typescript memoir, Christianity, Chinese religion.

Papers (1861-1878, 1892) consisting of correspondence, specifically special orders, general orders, circulars, and telegrams. Collection also includes a scrapbook and the Howard Family Tree.

Papers (1940-1977, undated) including correspondence, newspaper clippings, booklets, reports, pamphlets, programs, commissions, regulations, movie film and miscellaneous.

Papers of Kelly Cherry (1972-1999 [Bulk: 1995-1999]) documenting the life and literary career of the prolific Baton Rouge, Louisiana-born American novelist, poet, essayist, educator at University of Wisconsin-Madison and the University of Virginia among other universities, and poet laureate of Virginia 2010-2012; consisting of typescripts of Paula: An Odyssey: A Novel, Parts 1 – 4) (1995-1999), an unpublished volume; a broadside of her poem Loneliness: Words for a Secular Canticle (1980); also including loose manuscript items transferred from Kelly Cherry's works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection Augusta Played: A Novel (1978-1979), Conversion (1980), and Sick and Full of Burning: A Novel (1972-1989).

This collection spans W. Keats Sparrow's career at ECU, being comprised of materials from projects to which he contributed, in his roles as English professor, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, and president of Phi Kappa Phi.

Collection (1900 - 1983, undated [Bulk: 1936 - 1940]) of correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographic prints, printed forms, ephemera, printed materials, oversized materials, etc. relating to the life and career of William J. Croom (1901-1940) as a patrolman in Kinston, North Carolina, a member of the first North Carolina State Highway Patrol in Greensboro, N.C., and Director of Public Safety in Durham, N.C.; Also included are Croom and Peed family genealogical files and photographs.

Papers (1896-1978) including correspondence, minutes, reports, records, maps, charts, newspaper clippings, trustee and law files, pamphlets, and miscellaneous.

Collection (2005) of research material regarding the Battle of Wyse Forks, North Carolina, compiled by the donor for Through the Eyes of Soldiers: The Battle of Wyse Forks, Kinston, North Carolina, March 7-10, 1865, by Tom J. Edwards and William Rowland, edited by Ashleigh D. Brothers, published by the Lenoir County Historical Association, Kinston, N.C., in 2006, including typescripts of unit histories, excerpts from official records and published works, and manuscript maps of the battle.
