Collection (1883–1910) consisting of correspondence, eight Civil War pension application ledgers, 2 account books and church record book. The majority of the collection consists of claims for pensions by blacks who served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during the Civil War. The claims request compensation for wounds and injuries received or diseases contracted by the applicants. Claims were submitted either by the veterans themselves or by their survivors. While the majority of claimants appear to have lived in the vicinity of New Bern and James City, North Carolina, many resided throughout the central portion of eastern North Carolina. The ledgers were once the property of Frederick Douglass, a black lawyer, minister, and teacher of New Bern who handled the claims.

The collection includes publications created by the ECU School of Medicine and the University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Copy of The Greatest Anti-Submarine Action of All wars (an account of the World War II action of the USS George (DE-697) and copies of supporting documents, including the USS George war diary for May 1944.

Papers (Nov. 1952) of Defense Department, Research and Development Board member, Dr. Paul R. Beall taking part in exercise aboard USS Coral Sea (CVB 43), including ship's booklets, rosters, schematic drawing, schedule, and photographs.

127 World War II era photographs depicting members of the United States Marine Corps. African American servicemembers in photographs are assumed to be members of the 51st Defense Battalion, commonly refered to as the Montford Point Marines, the first African American unit in the Marine Corp. Also included in the collection are photographs of white Marine Corps members as well as a number of unidentified personal photographs, many of which depict African American women and children.

Lemuel Showell Blades, III, (1933-2011) began his career as a lawyer and then went on to become the president of the Norfolk Telephone Company while serving on a number of committees in Elizabeth City, and New Bern, North Carolina. This collection spans from 1711-2011 and includes newspaper clippings, photographs, genealogical charts, letters, oral histories, books, videos, and career files. The strength of this collection is the genealogical overview of the several generations linking to the Blades family.

Papers (1861-1878, 1892) consisting of correspondence, specifically special orders, general orders, circulars, and telegrams. Collection also includes a scrapbook and the Howard Family Tree.

The collection includes correspondence and some photographic material documenting the service of Richard Lewis Kinney (1927-2015) of Lexington, North Carolina in the United States Army in occupied Japan at the end of World War II. The collection provides a glimpse of an American soldier's point of view and experience serving overseas during the post-war occupation of Japan.

Papers of Andre Dubus (1967-1984, undated) documenting the literary career of the noted Lake Charles, Louisiana-born American novelist and essayist, consisting mainly of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection including correspondence, photographic prints, notes, advertising postcards, dust jackets, broadsides, and clippings of reviews, by or about Andre Dubus, Richard Ghormley Eberhart, and others; also a corrected page proof of his short story Land Where My Fathers Died (1984).

Papers (1864-1958 undated) of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, lawyer, judge, legislator, and gubernatorial candidate Richard Tillman Fountain consisting of correspondence, report, clippings, newspapers, law practice documents, letters, pamphlets, photographs, clippings, scrapbooks, and reports.

Records (1966-2006, undated) documenting the activities of the League of Women Voters of Pitt County, North Carolina, a women's political organization, including historical materials, board of trustees files, publications, clippings, research files, membership files, financial records, scrapbooks, oversized materials, correspondence, annual reports, photographic prints and slides, bylaws, and position statements.
