Papers (1943-1990 [Bulk: 1969-1984]. undated) documenting the life and literary career of W. D. [William De Witt] Snodgrass (1926-2009), a Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania-born American poet, literary critic, translator and educator at various universities, including the University of Delaware (1979-1994); consisting of typescripts of two works: Autobiographical Essays (1979) and From the "Death of Cock Robin" (1979); also a proof of his pamphlet Magda Goebbels (1983); loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including from his works entitled D. D. Byrde Callyng, Jennie Wrenn (1984), Heart's Needle (1959), In Radical Pursuit (1976), Six Minnesinger Songs (1983), and Spaulding Distinguished Lectures (1969); and a printed brochure entitled A Note from the Poet (undated) by Snodgrass.

Papers of William Harrison (1969) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Dallas, Texas-born American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and educator who was founder and director of the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, consisting of a proof of his novel In A Wild Sanctuary (1969).

Papers of Richard Yates (1977) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Yonkers, New York-born American novelist and short story writer, who chronicled the "age of anxiety" and was a creative writing educator at the University of Southern California, and other universities; consisting of bound uncorrected galley proofs of The Easter Parade: A Novel (1977).

Papers (1942-1997) of U.S. naval officer, who rose to the rank of rear admiral commanding the Navy's Recruiting Command and the Naval Inshore Warfare Forces, Atlantic Fleet, 1943-1973; East Carolina University graduate, (1943); businessman, 1973-1977; and head of North Carolina State Ports Authority (1979-1985), including documents, photographic prints and negatives, correspondence, certificates, clippings, printed forms, and printed materials.

Papers (1853-1937, undated) consisting of correspondence, financial and legal papers, letters, records of insurance, papers on business and farming, genealogical records, etc.

Papers (1911-1968, undated) include correspondence, writings, legal and financial papers, news clippings, a photograph and miscellaneous documents related to the career of Harry V. Bernard, Sr., who was an American businessman in China beginning in 1911. The documents also reflect his work with flood relief in the Shanghai District of China in the 1930s and his internment by the Japanese in a prison camp near Shanghai during World War II.

The papers contain material related to the life of Alison Hearne Atkins. A graduate of East Carolina University, Ms. Atkins earned a bachelor's degree in music education in 1952 and a master's degree in vocal performanace in 1961. She taught voice at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas for 28 years and later taught voice at a private studio. Ms. Atkins performed operatic works and performed and accompanied Scottish folk and art songs at Grandfather Mountain Highland Games in Linville, North Carolina for over 40 years. Included are notebooks containing teaching notes, programs, and clippings related to her career; clippings related to her former students; cards; letters; and documents relative to her being chosen as one of East Carolina University's 100 Incredible Women in 2007. The papers also include compact discs, an audiocassette, and a 5" reel to reel tape.

Records (1966-2006, undated) documenting the activities of the League of Women Voters of Pitt County, North Carolina, a women's political organization, including historical materials, board of trustees files, publications, clippings, research files, membership files, financial records, scrapbooks, oversized materials, correspondence, annual reports, photographic prints and slides, bylaws, and position statements.

This collection includes the papers of retired History Professor from Darton College (now part of Albany State University in Georgia) and author Dr. Royce G. Shingleton. These papers document his literary career in the fields of Naval History and mid-nineteenth century American South. His books include High Seas Confederate (about John Newland Maffitt), John Taylor Wood: Sea Ghost of the Confederacy, and Richard Peters: Champion of the New South; he also contributed to William N. Still's book The Confederate Navy. A native of Stantonsburg, North Carolina, Shingleton has done genealogical work relative to the Shingleton family that is also found in this collection.
