This collection includes the papers of retired History Professor from Darton College (now part of Albany State University in Georgia) and author Dr. Royce G. Shingleton. These papers document his literary career in the fields of Naval History and mid-nineteenth century American South. His books include High Seas Confederate (about John Newland Maffitt), John Taylor Wood: Sea Ghost of the Confederacy, and Richard Peters: Champion of the New South; he also contributed to William N. Still's book The Confederate Navy. A native of Stantonsburg, North Carolina, Shingleton has done genealogical work relative to the Shingleton family that is also found in this collection.

Brief history of ECU English Professor Alice Lucille Turner's involvement (1929-1948) with the Greenville (North Carolina) Chapter of the AAUW, photocopies of scrapbook newspaper clippings (1932-1936) about the Greenville Chapter, and material produced by the National Office (1929-1963) to be disseminated to the chapters.

Records (1888-1995, undated) of Roanoke Island Baptist Church, including copies of deeds and plat, correspondence, church histories, newsletter, and church manuscript record volumes, including minutes of conference minutes, treasurer's reports, Sunday School treasurer's reports, Women's Missionary Society.

Included are a copy of the Daniels-Murphrey Family History compiled and edited by Eleanor Daniels Casey in 1993, a photograph of the USS Nebraska that Benjamin Daniels of Wayne County, North Carolina, sailed to Europe on in WWI, and three photographs of Benjamin Daniels in his WWI US Navy uniform.

Papers (ca. 1942-1945) pertaining primarily to the 7th amphibious Force, Beach Party #5, in the Central Pacific during World War II, including personnel and operations file, terrain study handbooks, histories of the 7th amphibious Force, clippings, photographs, certificates and miscellany.

This collection includes a copy of a typescript of the autobiographical sketch written in 1893 by Eastern North Carolina physician and educator Richard Henry Lewis, Sr. (1832-1917). It refers to important family history in his background and describes important events in his life up until 1893.

The Vertical File contains brochures, pamphlets, newsletters, and other printed ephemeral material pertaining to North Carolina people, organizations, places, history, and events. Files on a county, for example, typically include brochures / maps pertaining to natural or historic sites, cultural events, and local businesses.

This collection contains the history of the Service League of Greenville, North Carolina (1951-2023). Present in the collection are the records of the organization, scrapbooks and photographs, uniforms worn by members, membership rosters, posters, clippings, and a cookbook. The material present in the collection includes both physical items and digital files.

The ship's log of the US Brig Porpoise, dated 19 February 1845 to 16 June 1846, was kept during a cruise from New York to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. It details navigational statistics, weather reports, sightings and hailing of other ships, and punishments of crew infractions. The author was probably Midshipman Benjamin Lee Henderson and the log was signed in fifteen places by Lt. Commander William E. Hunt.

This collection contains correspondence regarding Murray's appointment to East Carolina and his teaching duties as well as materials from his involvement in the Historical Society of North Carolina.

Papers (1861 - 2025, undated) documenting the archaeological excavations of the Confederate defensive fortifications, river obstructions and fish trap on the River Neuse below Kinston, NC, and the Confederate ironclad ram CSS Neuse, relating to Capt. Joseph H. Price, commander of the CSS Neuse, and relating to Lenoir County, N.C., history in general including correspondence, notes, photographic prints and negatives (black and white), and publications.

The bulk of the Raymond J. Kragness Papers (1943-1946, 2000, 2004) pertains to Mr. Kragness's service in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre in World War II aboard the USS Escambia. Personal items include rites of passage membership cards (such as crossing the Equator), draft board notification, photographs, post cards of San Francisco Bay, course certificates, separation from service records and a brief family history. The remaining items pertain to his service on the USS Escambia, a fleet oiler. Included are the ship's history and directory, newsletter "Eighty Times," a list of ships fuled by the USS Escambia, plans of the day, congratulatory messages from Admiral Halsey, and invitations and tickets for commissioning and decommissioning ceremonies.

Papers (1905-1942) of Allen Jay Maxwell, N.C. Commissioner of Revenue (1929-1942), including a biographical sketch, newspaper clippings, photographs, and speeches relating to state tax issues, his campaigns for N.C. governor, dissatisfaction with public school history textbooks and other aspects of his life.

Joe Gladstone Norman was born on November 5, 1933 in the United States. Norman served in the US Army in Geislingen, Leipheim, Munster, Swabish Gmund, and Ulm, Germany (1956), and Austria (1955). The collection spans 1955-1962 and documents Norman's overseas service, immunizations records, and an Army Graphic Training Aid. The strength of this collection is Post World War II American military troops.

The collection consists of a volume (circa 1897) containing the constitution and bylaws for the Pitt County Medical Society (North Carolina) and also the society's "black list" of patients.
