Collection consists of five scrapbooks containing items related to the life of Judge Oliver H. Allen (b. March 20, 1850, Wake Co., N.C.; raised in Duplin Co., N.C.; d. December 16, 1925, Kinston, N.C.) and his ancestors and descendants. The date span covered is 1826 to 1980. Of particular interest are items related to Judge Allen's life, the Hicks family of Granville Co., N.C. (1826-1832 and photocopies of documents for late 1700s), the WWI service of William A. Allen and Judge Allen's sons Matthew H. Allen and Reynold Tatum Allen, and the lives of Judge Allen's daughter Martha Allen Barnes and her daughter Sarah Allen Barnes who married Benjamin Bruce Sugg, Jr. Items include clippings, correspondence, Oxford Academy and Trinity College student materials, photographs, resolutions, WWI military records, funeral bulletins, booklets, prints, and postcards. Papers of James Dickey (1950-1994) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Atlanta, Georgia-born American poet, novelist and essayist, including correspondence, manuscripts, photographic prints, proofs of published works, reviews of published materials, printed material, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection and oversized materials, by or about James Dickey, Louis Untermeyer, and others.

Records (1899-2006, undated) of Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia shipbuilding company, including engineering drawings, blueprints, photographs, and negatives, correspondence, contracts, reports, personnel files. Production files, etc.

This collection contains correspondence (1841-1937) received by members of the May family of Farmville, Pitt County, N.C., including letters written from Michigan and Tennessee; receipts, promissory notes, and judgments (1813-1910); financial documents (1820s-1920), and account books (1819-1830s). Other material includes grade reports and tuition receipts for Farmville Academy (1899-1900), Farmville Seminary (1887-1888), and Farmville High School (1891, 1900); deeds and other land records (1760-1891), some of which refer to the Flake and Shivers families in Pitt County; a list Black enslaved men, women, and children that includes their birthdates (1830s-1850s) and their mothers' names; catalogs for Trenton High School (1897), St. Mary's School in Raleigh (1842), and Trinity School in Chocowinity (1907/1908); and a 1900 reward poster for the man who robbed R. L. Davis & Brothers of Farmville. Miscellaneous publications include among others The Primitive Baptist (1853-1860, 1870-1872), almanacs, telephone directories (1934 Greenville, 1930 Farmville), a 1919 Chicago war camp community service publication, and The Southern Women of the Second American Revolution . . . by H. W. R. [Jackson, 1863].

A collection (ca. 1885-1918, undated) of 55 cartes de visite and cabinet cards mounted on cardboard, a scrapbook containing 11 snapshots, a manuscript, and printed materials belonging to John Miller Faison, a North Carolina physician, Democratic Party leader, and Congressman from the N.C. Third District between 1911 and 1915.

This collection contains the Secret World War II Historical Narrative of District Operations Office and Inshore Patrol, Fifth Naval District, Norfolk, Virginia (August 31, 1945) Approved by R. S. [Russell Sydnor] Crenshaw, Captain, U.S.N. Assistant Commandant of the Fifth Naval District and commander of the Inshore Patrol during most of World War II.

These papers (1918, 1935-2012) relate chiefly to renowned poet A. R. (Archie Randolph) Ammons and belonged to his sister Vida Ammons Cox. Included are correspondence, publications by or dedicated to A. R. Ammons, programs, posters, photographs, awards, broadsides, book reviews, audio recordings, watercolors painted by A. R. Ammons and newspaper clippings.

Papers (1907-1968) documenting the U.S. Naval career (1910-1946) of Admiral Jules James consisting of correspondence of Naval travels, logbook, diaries, newspapers clippings, radio press news.

Papers (1942-1946, 1951, 1991), of U.S. Naval photo interpreter and intelligence officer, including memos, photographs, pamphlets, operations manuals, worksheets, maps, reports, and ephemera reflecting operations at Normandy, Cherbourg, Sicily, and Guam during World War II.

Papers (1826-1887, undated) including correspondence, journals, leaflets, diaries, verse, printed material, a drawing and miscellany.

These papers (1848-1882) belonged to Johnson H. Bryan, Jr.(1824-1883) of Craven County, North Carolina. Included are deeds, statements of debt and obligation, receipts, receipts for purchase and sale of enslaved people, correspondence, mortgages, bankruptcy papers, and a resolution of complaint related to tariff discriminations and maintenance deficiencies on the Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad.

The U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation Collection: Thomas Onachila Jr. Papers consists of two photographs documenting the USS Leyte (CV-32), an Essex-class aircraft carrier active during the early Cold War and Korean War period. The images, dating circa 1950–1952, include a view of the vessel and a group portrait of its crew.

The Ormond Family Papers (ca. 1770-1925) include correspondence, land grants, financial records, school notes taken at Trinity College, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and photographs pertaining to the Ormond and Turnage families of Dobbs, Greene and Pitt Counties, North Carolina. Considerable material pertains to State Senator Yancey T. Ormond of Greene County.
