A Sketch of the Catawba River at McCowans Ford was drawn by Charles Stedman and published in 1794. History of the Origin, Progress, and Termination of the American War. It shows the American Revolutionary War battle plan for the February 1, 1781, battle which took place in northwestern Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, at McCowan's (later known as Cowan's Ford) on the Catawba River.

This collection (1966-2011) consists of papers, ephemera, and printed oversize materials related to Democratic and Republican party politics in North Carolina that document elections and Chester Julian (C.J.) Hyatt's involvement in politics. There is also material related to George C. Wallace's campaign for president in 1968, 1972, and 1976. Hyatt was state chairman for Wallace's run in 1976.

1.65 cubic feet; Collection (1830-1926) including correspondence, ephemera, photographic prints, manuscript volumes & oversized materials, relating to the McDaniel, Harvey, and related families of Kinston and Trenton in Jones & Lenoir Counties, North Carolina, including materials related to the family's real estate holdings, business and social life, church activities, and children's educations.

Papers (1923-1993, 2001, undated) including correspondence, writings, newspaper clippings, photographs, and pamphlets related to the life of Robert Edward Harrill (1893-1972), known as the Fort Fisher Hermit from about 1955 when he moved into an abandoned World War II bunker at Fort Fisher, North Carolina, until his death.

Peace and Samuel Peace, and Matt Hankins, relating to Trinity College, North Carolina, Civil War battles at Washington, NC, Rappahannock Bridge, and Kelly's Ford, VA, including of copies, a memoir, clippings, genealogical notes, financial account, Bible records, amateur verse, contract, account of medical services.

The collection includes correspondence and some photographic material documenting the service of Richard Lewis Kinney (1927-2015) of Lexington, North Carolina in the United States Army in occupied Japan at the end of World War II. The collection provides a glimpse of an American soldier's point of view and experience serving overseas during the post-war occupation of Japan.

The Ormond Family Papers (ca. 1770-1925) include correspondence, land grants, financial records, school notes taken at Trinity College, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and photographs pertaining to the Ormond and Turnage families of Dobbs, Greene and Pitt Counties, North Carolina. Considerable material pertains to State Senator Yancey T. Ormond of Greene County.

Rep. Howard Chapin Papers (1947-2000) primarily pertaining to his nine terms in the North Carolina General Assembly from Washington, NC, 1974-1992, including personal correspondence, clippings, materials relating to his service on committees, and artifacts he received relating to the bicentennials of Washington, NC and the United States, 1975-76.

Papers (1942-2002), entitled "John Paul Jones and the American Navy 1775," written while a student at North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering, Raleigh, NC, including original handwritten manuscript, 1942 (28 p.), draft typescript, 1942 (14 p.), and spiral bound version self-published, 2002 (28 p.).

The Phoenix Historical Society: African American History of Edgecombe County was founded in 2001 to recover, record, and promote the unique history of Edgecombe County (North Carolina) as experienced by members of its African American community. This collection contains the society's official records, brochures, event programs, and publications related to research, community events and sponsored projects.

Makuck, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the English Department, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, where he taught from 1978 to 2006. A large portion of this collection pertains to the publication Tar River Poetry from its founding in 1978 by Dr. Makuck, as a publication of the English Department at ECU, until 2015.
