Papers (2/23/1862 - 12/26/1868) consisting of a pocket notebook belonging to James H. Mills, Sergeant of Company I, 44th Regiment North Carolina Troops, the "Eastern Tigers," a unit recruited in Pitt County, including orders, inventories, muster and supplies lists related to the Civil War and a few post-war account records.

Papers (1933-1988, undated) documenting the life and literary career of Katherine Anne Porter (1890-1980), the noted Indian Creek, Texas-born American short story writer and novelist, including correspondence; also original art, photographic prints, printed material and loose manuscripts transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection pertaining to Robert Penn Warren, Robert Lowell, Richard Ghormley Eberhart, William H. Littlefield, and others.

Papers (1885-1930, undated) including correspondence, financial papers, clippings, photographs, pamphlets, newspapers, a letterpress book, etc., relating to Fechtig's role as purchasing agent for the Washington, Ohio and Western Railroad Company and other companies.

Lecture notes, business accounts, newspaper articles, military papers, and artifacts of the Garrenton Family. The Garrentons include: James Francis Garrenton (1839-1913), Cecil (1883-1935), and Connell (1910-1985). They established the Bethel Clinic near Greenville, North Carolina.

Papers (1976-2011) of Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Executive Director of the North Carolina Clean Water Management Trust Fund and lobbyist for Conservation Council of North Carolina and the Sierra Club, North Carolina Chapter, including correspondence, newsletters, pamphlets, handbooks, magazines, legislative summaries, memos, reports, newspaper clippings on microfilm and miscellaneous documents relating to environmental issues.

This collection (2001-2008) has printed material, minutes, correspondence, ephemera and other documents donated by Dr. Keats Sparrow who participated as a member of the North Carolina First Flight Commission and its Education Committee during the 100th Anniversary celebration of the First Flight. The collection also contains a 2003 commemorative booklet "First Flight Visions celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight," information from the International Commission's 2001 Flight Symposium about the Wright Brothers, photographs, clippings, and brochures. Other items are a travel mug, automobile license plate, pins, shoulder patches and commemorative items.

This collection contains three letters (1933, 1940) written by Methodist Episcopal missionary Helen G. Moore who was stationed at Nagasaki, Japan, a Christmas card containing photographs of two unidentified Japanese children, and Japanese stamps. The letters were written as she traveled through Seoul, Korea, and Peking, China, in 1933, and from Nagasaki in 1940 when she described a recent visit to Shanghai, China, during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

Papers (1968, undated) consisting newspapers - The American Traveler, monthly magazine - TET Forward, TET, photographs of aftermath of a battle, and leaflets related to the Vietnam War.

Cunningham (1942-1983) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Cumberland, Maryland-born American poet, literary critic and educator at various colleges including Brandeis University, 1953-1980; consisting of an oversized printed broadside entitled J. V. Cunningham: Two Poems (1983), including two poems printed on separate sheets inserted into slits in a third sheet; also including loose manuscript items transferred from works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including: Bibliography of the Published Works of J. V. Cunningham (1964), The Helmsman (1942), and Woe or Wonder (1951) and other items by J. V. Cunningham.
