Papers of Hilary Masters (1984-1987) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-born American novelist, short-story writer, memoirist, and educator at Carnegie-Mellon University, consisting of manuscripts and proofs of his novels and short story collections entitled (1986-1987), Buster's Head (1985), and Hammertown Tales (1986); also loose items transferred from his works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection (1985-1987); and oversized materials related to Hammertown Tales (1984, 1986).

Papers of George Garrett (1930-2009 [Bulk: 1960-2009], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Orlando, Florida-born American poet and novelist, consisting of audio recordings, correspondence, manuscripts of poems by, about, or relating to George Garrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Carolyn Chute, Larry McMurtry, Ned O'Gorman, Henry S. Taylor & others; also including notes, oversized materials, photographic prints, printed forms, proofs of published works, loose manuscript materials transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, & printed materials; in English & French language.

This collection contains two unrelated photograph albums of missionary and Y. M. C. A. related photographs of China. Some of the places captured are Taiyuanfu, Wu Ch'eng, Shanghai, Chin SSu, Tientsin, and Peiping. Note that not all the photographs are dated but each has a caption. The collection is estimated to date between the 1920s and 1930s.

This collection (1850-1969; bulk 1860-1889) of papers belonging to Wilmington, New Hanover County, NC, attorneys, who were father and son and both named Marsden Bellamy, includes wills, deeds, estate and mortgage records, legal briefs, correspondence, insurance policies, account books, loan records, receipts of payment, agreements and other legal records.

Letters (20 November 1862 – 20 January 1863) from two brothers -- Alfred Howard Kinsley of Co. H, of the 45th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Militia) and Thomas Kinsley, serving in Co. A, -- from Camp Amory on the Trent River, North Carolina, to Edward Wilkinson Kinsley, a Boston merchant, Abolitionist, Government agent and military recruiter, who was probably their relative, and primarily concerning their service in Brig. Gen. John G. Foster's Expedition to Goldsboro, NC, including the First Battle of Kinston and the Battle of Whitehall, NC, 13 – 14, 16 December 1862. Autograph letters signed.

Papers of Andrew Nelson Lytle (1934–1992, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Murfreesboro, Tennessee-born, American biographer, novelist, dramatist, literary critic, educator, and editor, who became a leader and spokesman for the Southern Agrarian literary movement, including correspondence, manuscript materials, typescripts and holographs, printed materials, and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.

Papers (1791-1945) of steamboat operator on the Cape Fear and Black Rivers, based in Point Caswell, NC, consisting of correspondence, genealogical material, wills, indentures, marriage certificate, receipts, inventories, exposition programs, photographs, newspaper clippings, letters and miscellaneous.

Advertisements for medicine, likely from between 1870 and 1910. The advertisements include patent medicine trade cards, blotter paper advertisements, broadside advertising sheets, booklets, and calendars. "Patent medicines" were often promoted as "cure-alls" for many parts of the body and their ingredient list (if any) was often inaccurate.

Correspondence (1868-1869), written from Japan by fellow U.S. naval officers Samuel P. Carter and Earl English.

Papers (1942-1997) of U.S. naval officer, who rose to the rank of rear admiral commanding the Navy's Recruiting Command and the Naval Inshore Warfare Forces, Atlantic Fleet, 1943-1973; East Carolina University graduate, (1943); businessman, 1973-1977; and head of North Carolina State Ports Authority (1979-1985), including documents, photographic prints and negatives, correspondence, certificates, clippings, printed forms, and printed materials.

Letters and ephemera (1926-1929) related to the life of Agnes Wadlington [Barrett], who was born in Trigg County, Kentucky in 1902, before she took a job at East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University) as secretary to the president of the college. Also found with these papers are many photographs of members of the Putnam family of Murray, Kentucky. The only connection between Mrs. Barrett and the Putnam family appears to be that both she and Louise Vey Putnam Carter's husband Herbert Leland Carter both worked at East Carolina University. An 1982 engagement calendar kept by Mrs. Barrett documents her life during retirement in Greenville, North Carolina.

Papers (1830-2011, undated [bulk 1830-1973]) relating to the Young – Spicer family of Fredericks Hall, Louisa County, Virginia and related families living in Virginia, Mississippi and Louisiana, including correspondence relating to the civil war, businesses, taxes & family matters; journals, photographic prints; genealogical and historical files and a listing of the gravestones in the Young-Spicer Cemetery at the family home, "Locust Grove" at Fredericks Hall, Virginia. Photocopies and original documents.

Papers of Mary Eloise von Schrader Jarrell (1965-2012, undated) documenting the life and literary career the St. Louis, Missouri-born, memoirist and patron of the arts, who was the widow and literary executor of poet and educator Randall Jarrell (1914-1965) consisting of correspondence with Stuart Wright, typescripts, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, printed materials, and oversized materials relating primarily to her life with Randall Jarrell and the promotion of his works and literary influence on American poetry.
