In this oral history interview Ronnie Barnes speaks primarily about his experience as a student at East carolina University. He also discusses his childhood, career with the New York Giants football team, and accomplishments.

This collection contains birth, death, and marriage records from three related family Bibles for the Crocker, Haynes, Horton, Riggan, Jordan families. The date span covered is 1848 through 2005. Most of the people in these records were from the Raleigh, Wake County, North Carolina area. The Jordan family was from Hamlet, North Carolina. A recent generation, the Markowski family, lived in Greenville, North Carolina.

In this oral history, Carl Long (May 9, 1935 - January 12, 2015) discusses his professional baseball career (1952-1958) with the "Negro American League" and the Pittsburgh Pirates farm clubs including among others the Kinston (North Carolina) Eagles in the Carolina League where he was the first African American baseball player in the league; his time as the first African American deputy sheriff and first African American detective in Kinston; and his subsequent career as the first African American bus driver in Lenoir County (NC) from which he retired in 1995.

The Nell Wise Wechter Papers contains copies of the author's books, Taffy of Torpedo Junction (1957), Betsy Dowdy's Ride (1960), Swamp Girl (1971), and The Mighty Midgetts of Chicamacomico (1974). Also included are the typed and written drafts, typed manuscripts with revisions, original manuscripts, and galley proofs for her books. There is also correspondence from the Library of Congress, British Embassy, and Mariners Museum regarding Wechter's requests for information to assist her in writing her novels.

Correspondence of Minnie Tapscott with public officials and newspaper editors, newspaper and magazine articles, legal documents, reports, maps and publications related to the development of the North Carolina Global Transpark (GTP) in Kinston, North Carolina, over the years 1992 to 2001.

This collection (1760s-1902) mainly contains land records, accounts, a will, and receipts related to the Price and McDade families of Edgecombe and Nash Counties, North Carolina. Also included is a PDF scan of "The Life History of Dempsey Trevathan and Descendants." Another interesting item is a diary (1890-1895, 1902) kept by Theron L. Budesheim's grandmother Franc Emma Rhoades Bates. She documents her life in New York and Pennsylvania where her husband Oliver Bates worked as a scaler in the timber industry.

Records Palaemon Press, Limited (1943-1992, [Bulk: 1977-1987], undated) documenting the history and publications of the small, Winston-Salem, North Carolina literary press, that produced small, beautiful, numbered editions of brochures, broadsides, chapbooks, & pamphlets, mainly by southern authors, owned and operated by Stuart T. Wright; consisting of correspondence with authors, printers, reviewers, and publishers; manuscript materials, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, printed materials, proofs, and oversized materials.

Collection contains mainly material related to the African American Navy Band members who served at the Great Lakes Naval Base during World War II (1942-1945). This material includes programs and related material from the February 28-March 2, 2003, salute to these African American band members that was held in Chicago, Illinois, and from former band member Carl Foster's participation in a symposium sponsored by the North Carolina Museum of History in 2003. Other material includes programs (1987) for concerts by the North Carolina Jazz Ensemble and a 1945 USO Hawaii booklet. A second focus of this collection is on the lives of Alex Albright's family members including uncles on his mother's side and their involvement with the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and World War II service and death.

Advertisements for medicine, likely from between 1870 and 1910. The advertisements include patent medicine trade cards, blotter paper advertisements, broadside advertising sheets, booklets, and calendars. "Patent medicines" were often promoted as "cure-alls" for many parts of the body and their ingredient list (if any) was often inaccurate.

The Ormond Family Papers (ca. 1770-1925) include correspondence, land grants, financial records, school notes taken at Trinity College, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, and photographs pertaining to the Ormond and Turnage families of Dobbs, Greene and Pitt Counties, North Carolina. Considerable material pertains to State Senator Yancey T. Ormond of Greene County.
