Papers (1941-1945) of U. S. Naval officer, graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy (1941), including his Reminiscences of World War II.

Collection contains material related to the research, teaching, and publications of East Carolina University Department of History faculty member Lawrence F. Brewster, as well as his materials related to his philanthropy to ECU.

Collection (1821-2000, undated [bulk: 1989-2000]) of correspondence, family histories, genealogical charts, copies of deeds, cemetery records, Bible records, miscellany and oversized materials relating to Christopher DeGraffenried, also known as Baron Christoph von Graffenried, who established a colony of Swiss and Palatine emigrants at New Bern, North Carolina, in 1710; and also relating to his ancestors and descendants and the DeGraffenried Association, of Gulfport, Mississippi and San Antonio, Texas, which was established to preserve the family history and to maintain contact between family members; in English, German, Italian, and French language.

Genealogical materials given by Martha Mewborn Marble including Bible records, photographs, notes, legal documents, land records, and clippings concerning families in Greene, Lenoir, Jones, and Pitt counties, North Carolina. Some of the families included are Mewborn, Kilpatrick, Albritton, Pugh, Cannon, Batchelor, Howell, Ormond, Carr, Hardison, Taylor, Sutton, Jackson, Frye, Ham, Hartsfield, Dupree, Faulkner, Rouse, Phillips, Franklin, Joyner, Bryan, Hatch, Cox, McCoy, and Abbott families. Also included are Le-Nea, the first yearbook (1938) for Contentnea High School, Graingers, Lenoir County, North Carolina, autograph books, and a ledger (1888-1892) of Wilbar General Store, Greenville, Pitt County, North Carolina. The Kayaitchess (1924) Vol. 1, published by the students of Kinston High School, Kinston, North Carolina, and the Connecting Link Commencement Issue 1926, published every other week by students of Kinston City Schools under the Supervision of Committee of Teachers have been transferred to the North Carolina Collection and have been catalogued.

Naval Academy Class of 1941, USS NORTH CAROLINA (BB-55), Transport Divisions 14 and 10, USS SAVANNAH (CL-42), USS MISSISSIPPI (AG-128), USS OREGON CITY (CA-123), USS LEWIS HANCOCK (DD-675), USS HUSE (DE-145), USS BROWNSON (DD-868), Carrier Division 14, 17th Naval District, Kodiak, AK, and the First Naval District Intelligence Office, Boston.

Papers (1806-1906) including correspondence, financial papers, journals, notebooks, legal papers and business documents relating to Timothy Hunter (1804-1875), a prominent Pasquotank County, N.C., shipbuilder and mariner.

Papers of Eleanor Ross Taylor (1940-2008 [Bulk: 1989-2008], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Falls Church, Virginia-born American poet, short story writer, and literary critic, consisting of edited manuscripts, proofs of published material & printed materials, including The Soul and Body of John Brown: A Poem, by Muriel Ruykeyser (1940); also including correspondence with Stuart Wright concerning her husband Peter Hillsman Taylor's papers; and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.

This collection contains the administrative records, printed materials, and publications for the Department of Science Education. Record types include annual reports, staff meeting minutes, self-studies, unit codes, brochures and flyers, and newsletters.

Letters, photographs, ephemera, maps, and printed materials (1966-1968, 1986) of U.S. Navy Hospitalman 3rd Class (HM3) in the Vietnam War relating to his training at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Great Lakes, IL; his service in Company D., 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps, in Da Nang and Phu Bai, Vietnam; and his Rest and Recreation leaves in Bangkok, Thailand, Georgetown, and Penang, Malaysia.

Papers of [Edward Joseph] Ted Walker (1963-1983 [Bulk: 1963-1964]) documenting the life and literary career of the noted English-born poet, short story writer, travel writer, television and radio writer, and broadcaster, who later taught creative writing at New England College's campus in West Sussex, United Kingdom; consisting of his letters to John Smith regarding publication of his poems; holographs and corrected typescripts of his poems; and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection related to Stuart Wright's purchase of Poems for Cordelia, by Ted Walker (1972).

Papers of Maurice Sendak (1982-1986) documenting the life and literary career the famed Brooklyn, New York-born American artist, illustrator and writer of children's books; consisting of partial, non-consecutive, uncorrected bound proofs of Nutcracker (1984) the fantasy by E. T. A. [Ernst Theodor Amadeus] Hoffmann (1776-1822) that became the basis of the ballet of the same name by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893); translated by Ralph [Frederick] Manheim (1907-1992); pictures by Maurice Sendak; also including loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled The Art of Maurice Sendak (1982-1985), by Selma G. Lanes, including letters by and about Maurice Sendak to Stuart Wright.

Reminiscences (1999) of Capt. Walter P. Murphy, Jr. (US Navy ret.) a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1941, of his service (1941-1944) as a junior naval officer during World War II, including among other topics the incident of the submarine USS Sailfish sinking the Japanese carrier Chuyo.

Photocopies of papers (1862-1899, 1931-1938) consisting of correspondence written by Nathan R. Frazier of Guilford County, North Carolina, while a member of Company B, the 45th Regiment North Carolina State Troops during the Civil War, post-war correspondence, court records, receipts, and a census of white children between the ages of six and twenty-one years old in District No. 3 in Deep River Township, Guilford County, N.C.
