Eliza Arnold Hopkins Poe was born in 1787 in London. She was an actor and mother of American Poet Edgar Allan Poe. The collection is a photographic print of a miniature portrait of Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe dated circa 1811. It was donated to the East Carolina Teachers Training School's Edgar Allan Poe Literary Society in 1914.

Records (1950-2007) of Greenville Industries, including by-laws, certificate of incorporation, board minutes, correspondence, contracts, deeds, and blueprints, and of longtime board member and president Charles O'Hagan Horne, Jr. (1970-2000), including correspondence, financial records, blueprints, maps, and reports. Greenville Industries was a for-profit corporation founded to sell land at reduced rates to industries to encourage them to set up businesses in Pitt County, North Carolina.

The Karel B. Absolon Collection is comprised of Absolon family papers and Karel B. Absolon's research and collecting interest, particularly Theodor Billroth. The papers relating to Absolon's family span three generations and include Karel B. Absolon, Karel Absolon, Willibald Absolon, and Jaroslav Bakes (a cousin to Karel Absolon). Karel B. Absolon's primary research interest was Austrian abdominal surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894). Absolon also collected items related to European, primarily men, in the science field. The collection includes correspondence, translations, prints, photographs, articles, ephemera, and original documents.

[William De Witt] Snodgrass (1926-2009), a Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania-born American poet, literary critic, translator and educator at various universities, including the University of Delaware (1979-1994); consisting of typescripts of two works: Autobiographical Essays (1979) and From the "Death of Cock Robin" (1979); also a proof of his pamphlet Magda Goebbels (1983); loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including from his works entitled D. D. Byrde Callyng, Jennie Wrenn (1984), Heart's Needle (1959), In Radical Pursuit (1976), Six Minnesinger Songs (1983), and Spaulding Distinguished Lectures (1969); and a printed brochure entitled A Note from the Poet (undated) by Snodgrass.

Papers of Walter Sullivan (1987-1989) documenting the life and career of the Nashville, Tennessee-born American novelist, literary critic, and English professor at Vanderbilt University; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled A Requiem for the Renascence: The State of Fiction in the Modern South, by Walter Sullivan (1976); including Sullivan's letters to Stuart Wright regarding his book collection, 1987-1989.

Papers (1941-1987) of member of U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1941, including correspondence, a partial diary, a thesis, articles, military orders, citations, clippings, certificates, and photographs relating to his World War II service aboard the USS CUSHING, USS HUTCHINS, and USS NEWCOMB; also including materials relating to his civilian business career, 1954-1987.

Collection (1821-2000, undated [bulk: 1989-2000]) of correspondence, family histories, genealogical charts, copies of deeds, cemetery records, Bible records, miscellany and oversized materials relating to Christopher DeGraffenried, also known as Baron Christoph von Graffenried, who established a colony of Swiss and Palatine emigrants at New Bern, North Carolina, in 1710; and also relating to his ancestors and descendants and the DeGraffenried Association, of Gulfport, Mississippi and San Antonio, Texas, which was established to preserve the family history and to maintain contact between family members; in English, German, Italian, and French language.

This collection contains documents (1821-1994, bulk 1860s-1910s) related to the Newsom family, especially Marion Eaton Newsom, of Littleton, Warren and Halifax Counties, North Carolina. Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, financial papers, and a family history written by Marion E. Newsom (1909, addendum 1911) about the Newsom and Nicholson families. Some material also relates to the Whitaker and Heptinstall families. A large part of this collection also documents the history of Littleton and institutions there such as schools, churches, and Littleton Female College.
