Papers (1939-1943) include correspondence from a U.S. naval officer describing life on the minesweeper USS YMS-62 (1942-1943) during World War II while stationed in New Orleans and Burwood in Louisiana, at sea, and in Algeria. Lieutenant Commander Brown also records his impressions of Algeria in these letters.
This collection includes 13 pieces of correspondence addressed to Mathias Embry of Vincennes, Indiana during the years 1863-1864. The bulk of the collection was written by or about John Posey (1842?-1864) and Charles Newton (1843?-1864), both Black soldiers who served in the 55th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment. The letters provide a glimpse of the experience and motivation of Black soldiers serving during the Civil War and the effect of the war on both the enlisted and non-combatants.

Each UNC campus has a local board of trustees that holds extensive powers over academic and other operations of its campus on delegation from the Board of Governors. The University also honors the important traditional role of the faculty in the governance of the academy. This file inclueds policy memorandums, correspondence, Board of Governors Minutes, inauguration papers for President Friday and President Spangler, reports, statements, and proposals, as well as awards and publications.
The WVOT (Radio Station: Wilson, N.C.) Collection is a scrapbook (1947-1948) containing identified photographs and newspaper clippings documenting the organization and early development of a private radio station in Wilson, N.C. At the time, Wilson was well-known for its tobacco warehouses. The photographs depict the station's founders and special events involving the radio station as well as views of Wilson and its tobacco warehouses and business district.
Printed materials (1960-1990) received by Drs. Joseph and Lala Steelman related to the National Democratic Party and related organizations concerning social, environmental, and political issues (1969-1990). The collection also includes family files on Steelman and Edmisten families, plus large collection of familial correspondence. Records pertaining to the Steelmans' time at East Carolina are located in University Archives.
