Memorial Tribute (undated) to Lieutenant Martin H. Ray, Jr., US Naval officer, who dies in the Battle of Midway on June 6, 1942.

Collection (ca. 1876-1942) of manuscripts, photographs, and printed materials relating to Vice Admiral Niblack (1858-1929) and his family, especially his naval, engineering, and scientific careers. Included are his work with the Smithsonian Institution; services in the USS ALABAMA, USS BOSTON, USS CASTINE, USS CHICAGO, USS COSMOS, USS IROQUOIS, USS LACKAWANNA, USS MICHIGAN, USS PATTERSON, USS PITTSBURGH, USS TACOMA, USS UTAH, and the USS WINSLOW; as Director of Naval Intelligence, 1919-1920; and his services ((beginning in 1896) as naval attaché to the U. S. Embassies at Berlin and Rome and to the U. S. Legation at Vienna. Topics covered include combat at the Battle of Manila (1898) during the Spanish American War, involvement of the USS BOSTON in the Battle of Iloilo (1899) in the Philippine Islands during the Philippine-American War, the Occupation of Vera Cruz, Mexico, 1914, and during and after World War I, 1917-1919, 1921-1922. Other materials relate to the naming and launching (1937-1942) of the USS NIBLACK.

Papers of Donald Davie (1938-2016 [Bulk: 1938-2010], undated), the English-born writer, editor, poet, and educator, relating primarily to Davie's life and literary career, including correspondence, typescripts, holographs, miscellaneous materials and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, proofs of published works, audio-visual materials, printed materials, and oversized materials, including works by Reginald Gibbons, Robert Shapard, James Thomas, and others.

The papers come from Dr. James Bryant Person and his son James Bryant Person Jr. Included in the collection are account ledgers from Dr. Person and papers related to settling Dr. Person's estate after his death.

Photograph Album and other files (ca. 1950 - 2004) relating to historic houses in Chowan, Perquimans, Bertie, Gates, and Washington counties in the Albemarle region of North Carolina, including photographic prints, postcard, floor plan sketches, maps, and correspondence.

This collection consists of papers relating to William Alva Greenleaf. Documents within this collection include, papers relating to William's service in the Civil War, correspondence, legal and estate records, financial records and genealogy records.

Correspondence (1942-1945) between Mary A. McLeod, through her work in South Carolina with the USO, and several members of the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II; and correspondence (1936-1949, undated) between Lt. John D. Grier and his family in the Charlotte, North Carolina, area during his military service before and during World War II. Other correspondence in the collection is between Grier and his brother who was a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II. The collection spans 1936-1949 and includes correspondence, photographs, and a Blue Star Service Banner which would have been displayed in the front window of a home where a family member was serving in the U.S. MaryArmed Services during World War II. Mary A. McLeod and John D. Grier were married in 1948.

Oral history interviews of James "Jimmy" Earl Brake and Robert "Bob" Luther Brake (1938-). Included are transcriptions and three maps which note places discussed in the interview. Interviews were recorded by Alston Cobourn, neice of interviewees.

This collection contains the written works of Dr. Henry Merritt Stenhouse, a U.S. Naval doctor. The written works detail his life as a naval doctor while in China and Japan (1918) and thoughts towards the Russian Revolution, the Chinese revolution, and their culture. It also gives detailed accounts of some illnesses, diseases, and injuries treated by Dr. Henry Stenhouse as well as his life as a medical student at the University of Colorado.

Papers (Nov. 1952) of Defense Department, Research and Development Board member, Dr. Paul R. Beall taking part in exercise aboard USS Coral Sea (CVB 43), including ship's booklets, rosters, schematic drawing, schedule, and photographs.

William Davis Brackett's papers relating to his service in eastern North Carolina with E Company of the 45th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment during the Civil War, 1862-1863.

Contained in the collection are notebooks, pamphlets, photographs and negatives from Boice's time at the University of Pennsylvania and his career afterwards.
