This collection (1760s-1902) mainly contains land records, accounts, a will, and receipts related to the Price and McDade families of Edgecombe and Nash Counties, North Carolina. Also included is a PDF scan of "The Life History of Dempsey Trevathan and Descendants." Another interesting item is a diary (1890-1895, 1902) kept by Theron L. Budesheim's grandmother Franc Emma Rhoades Bates. She documents her life in New York and Pennsylvania where her husband Oliver Bates worked as a scaler in the timber industry.

Collection (12 February 1864) consisting of a letter from Pvt. James Addison Lowrie, Company D of the 57th North Carolina Infantry, at Kinston, NC, to his brother Robert [of Brunswick County, NC], reporting on his good health, the poor mail service, the lack of news, the growing dissatisfaction among "the boys", the recent desertion of 14 men from the 21st Regiment North Carolina Infantry, and the Kinston Hangings, the hanging, on 12 February 1864, of five men who had deserted the Confederate Army and been recaptured: Amos Amyett, Mitchell Busick, Lewis Bryan, William Irving and John Staley; after deserting, the men had joined the 2nd North Carolina Union Volunteers and been captured on 1 February 1864, at Beech Grove; also transcript of letter; also digital copy.

Papers (1918-2005) relating to Greenville and Enfield, North Carolina boy scout leader including his World War I Diary recounting his service in the 14th Company, 4th Training Battalion, Depot Brigade and the 218th Ambulance Company in the American Expeditionary Force in France, 1918-1919, camp schedule, list of letters received and answered, addresses of French women, debts, English - French phrase, movements, places visited, and observations on daily military activities; memorials after his death; biographical sketches and clippings; letters and clippings describing him; and photographic prints of him in his World War I uniform. Collection (ca. 1802-1951) of material compiled by members of Christ Episcopal Church of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, related to the church's history including photographs, blueprints, correspondence, scrapbooks, church history booklets, annual reports, parish yearbooks, programs, clippings, and budget documents.

Papers (1873-[1887-1901]-1958) of a Black lawyer, minister and teacher, in New Bern, N.C., who handled pension applications for many African Americans who served in the Union Army and Navy during the Civil War or their widows, consisting of pension affidavit ledgers, pension certificate ledgers, correspondence, pamphlets, daybooks, photographs, poetry, essays, application forms, tax receipts, etc.

Genealogical research notes (undated, 1896-1980) bible notes, bible information, correspondence, court records and reports, compiled by Elizabeth Moore, Frances Brian Broadfoot, Miss Margaret S. Broadfoot, Frances B. Claypoole, and Frances Bryan Broadfoot Claypoole.

These papers (1938) document the New Deal policy during the Great Depression of resettling impoverished families from across the country into planned settlements. One of these resettlements occurred in Tillery, Halifax County, North Carolina. The documents are summonses for defendants to appear in the District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The importance of these documents is that they list the names of landholders whose land was being condemned to be used in the planned Resettlement.

Papers (1788-1869, 1965) Hoyle J. Windley, of Bath, NC, a teacher, postmaster, and lieutenant in the NC militia, and his children, consisting of correspondence, store accounts, receipts, promissory notes, wills, summonses, bill of sale, special events-major fire, tournaments, coronation Ball, etc.

Papers of Donald Davidson (1981, 1986) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Giles County, Tennessee-born American poet, essayist, social and literary critic and author; consisting of a printed broadside of his poem An Epinician Ode in Honor of John Crowe Ransom, published by Palaemon Press (1981); noted by Stuart Wright on verso: typescript is signed by Donald Davidson 'At Bread Loaf, Vermont / July 28, 1958; also including a letter from M. Thomas Inge to Stuart Wright (1986) concerning the possible publication of Inge's correspondence with Davidson.

Collection includes a letter written by Ann Elizabeth Bogart, Washington, N.C., to "My dear Aunt," January 8, 1865, describing wartime conditions in Washington, N.C., and vicinity, a 2-page partial transcription of the letter, a tintype of a woman (possibly Ann Elizabeth Bogart), and two color images of the gravestone for Ann Bogart and the plot where she is buried in Washington, N.C. Also included are research materials concerning David Nevius Bogart of Washington, N.C., and related to the Bogart, Biggs, O'Cain, Lucas, Bonner, Peyton, and Snoad families of Beaufort County, N.C. Photographs, genealogy notes, Bible records, and correspondence relate to the Smallwood, Williams, and Hassell families of Williamston, N.C. Letters related to brothers Will and Bruce Smallwood discuss Will's travels and death (1918) in Alaska and Bruce's life and death (after 1894) in Mexico.

Collection (1942 – 2014, undated) of programs, notes, photographic prints, etc. documenting the history and membership of the U. S. Navy B-1 Band, the first All-African American band to serve in the U. S. Navy during World War II, including reunion programs, historical and biographical sketches and photographs of the band and its members, rosters, and the music and lyrics for naval hymns.

Photographs, ephemera (identification cards), correspondence, printed materials and forms, U.S. Navy uniform parts, and museum objects pertaining to U.S. Naval Reserve Radioman 3rd Class Jim Will Spry's training at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center, Chicago, IL and service aboard the destroyer escort USS CATES (DE-763) in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans during and after World War II.
