The Round Table Book Club Records document the history and activities of the Round Table Book Club of Greenville, North Carolina, from approximately 1910 through 2014. The collection contains constitutions and bylaws, meeting minutes, attendance records, yearbooks and annual programs, correspondence, event materials, historical writings, photographs, artifacts, and audiotape recordings. These materials provide insight into the intellectual, cultural, and civic activities of the organization and its members, including reading programs, lectures, anniversary celebrations, and community engagement. Particularly extensive are the club's yearbooks and meeting minutes, which provide a nearly continuous record of the organization's operations, leadership, reading selections, and program themes across multiple decades. The collection also documents the club's role in local cultural life, including its involvement with Sheppard Memorial Library and other civic initiatives in Greenville and Pitt County.
Collection (1852-2014) includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed materials, and other items compiled by retired East Carolina University English professor emeritus Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives (1930-2016) relating primarily to the Hardee - Rives and related families of North Carolina and the United Kingdom, the history of Eastern North Carolina (especially Halifax County and the town of Enfield), the United Methodist Church in Eastern North Carolina, state and local and national politics, and his charitable and philanthropic interests. The earliest original documents cover the period from 1852 through the Civil War and World War I.
Major General Charles Justin Bailey was born at Tamaqua, Pennsylvania, on June 21, 1859. He commanded the 81st Infantry Division, American Expeditionary Forces, fighting in France during 1918 and 1919. Bailey compiled this album during 1918 and 1919 and it contains postcards of French and German towns and provinces; a few letters; photographs of France and the 81st Division including behind the lines scenes, Camp Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina, and identified officers and dignitaries; clippings and ephemera; and eight large color fold-out maps. The strength of the collection is its representation of World War I in France.

These consist primarily of images of businesses, buildings, boats and ferries, mills, cemeteries and gravestones, architectural features of interest, churches, schools, people and historical houses.

Oral history interviews relating to his youth and his experiences, 1917-1972, as the second African-American midshipman to attend the United States Naval Academy (Class of 1941) for approximately three weeks during the summer of 1937, and his education and career as a teacher in the Washington, DC school system, 1942-1972. Received 8/26/1997, 3/23/2004.
This collection contains a selection of seventy-two poems entitled Diary of a Downtown Cat that is a portion of his collection titled "Eccentric City." Mr. Kimber is a native of Greenville, North Carolina, now residing in Durham, N.C. The selection is divided into eight sections and Section I, titled "Migration from Mars to Downtown," relates to his experience growing up in the Shore Drive community in downtown Greenville. Those poems were written in the 1980s. Kimber, born in 1950, lived in this community until 1965 at which time the buildings in this community were beginning to be demolished as part of the Urban Renewal Plan and the location is now the Town Common on the Tar River.
Collection includes a photograph album kept by three men as they travelled from Ohio to Warren County, North Carolina, (November 16-30, 1917) as they accompanied a train car load of cattle. Included are images of trains, train bridges, the farm ("plantation") belonging to N. A. Connell at Norlina and Warren Plains, North Carolina, Connell family members, farm equipment, and the process of cotton production (being picked, cotton gin, spinning cotton).
Birth and death information (1740-1812) for the Bishop family of Cheraw District, South Carolina, are written in ink on the inside of the front cover of a book. Only the front cover of the book is extant.
The Mattamuskeet Lodge was originally built as a pumphouse to drain Lake Mattamuskeet in Hyde County, North Carolina, and was later converted to a hunting lodge. The collection spans 1915 to 2007 and includes photographs (1910s-1940s,undated) of the town of New Holland which was built in the drained lake bed, the New Holland Inn, and Lake Mattamuskeet. Scenes also include anglers at Lake Landing Canal, the Mattamuskeet Causeway, and carp barricades installed in the water control gates. A series of photographs from the 1990s show interior renovations being done on Mattamuskeet Lodge and gatherings by ECU student groups for retreats and public gatherings for special occasions. Two publications (2001, 2007) are from the period after the lodge was closed due to structural issues.
