Papers (1945-1949 [Bulk 1945]) consisting of black & white photographic prints taken by U.S. Army Master Sergeant Alvis Whitted Mewborn in France, Germany, and Austria, during his service in the 131st Evacuation Hospital, 11th Armored Division, U.S. Third Army, during World War II, featuring photographs of Mauthausen Concentration Camp & Camp Gusen #1, near Mauthausen, Austria, where the Germans held mainly Italian but also Russian and Serbian prisoners of war about 9,000 of whom died in the camp; including views of the prisoners, alive and dead, the underground Messerschmitt factory, the quarry, the railroad siding, the camp cemetery and camp chapel built by the Americans after they liberated the camp; care and treatment of the survivors, etc.; Palais de Chaillot, in Paris, France; Ulm Cathedral in Ulm, Germany; St. Florian's Monastery near Enns, Austria; also views of homes belonging to Hermann Goering and Adolf Hitler at Berchtesgaden, Germany; street scenes and the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, France; and post-war Mewborn family and fishing scenes in the Outer Banks, North Carolina.

Robert Morgan Papers

Papers, 1861-2011 (bulk 1940-1992), undated, of Senator Robert Burren Morgan, an ECU alumnus and lawyer, who served the state of North Carolina in a variety of elected and appointed positions. His first elected position was clerk of court in Harnett County. He was elected to the State Senate, served as president pro tempore of the Senate, and was twice elected Attorney General of North Carolina. He served in this position until 1974, when he won the United States Senate seat vacated by Senator Samuel James "Sam" Ervin, Jr. Morgan served as United States Senator from 1975 to 1981. He returned to his law practice following an unsuccessful reelection campaign and later served as Director of the State Bureau of Investigation from 1985 until 1992. Morgan served as a member of the ECU Board of Trustees for fifteen years, including nine terms as chair in the 1960s. He helped the institution achieve university status and was instrumental in establishing the ECU School of Medicine. The collection includes series relating to Morgan's family and personal matters, North Carolina Senate Files, Attorney General Files, United States Senate Files, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Files, and Oversized Materials Files. It includes manuscripts, photographs, audio and video materials, electronic records, printed materials, and ephemera.

Jean M. Duff Collection

Collection contains newspapers (1945-1978) from New York City, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Florida related to special events such as the end of World War II, the Vietnam War, the death of U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson, the Apollo astronauts landing on the moon, hurricanes, and the Bicentennial of the U.S. Also included in this collection are postcards (postmarked 1906-2008, with the bulk of them being 1906-1944) of scenes and buildings in North Carolina, several European countries, Morocco, and several Central American and South American countries.

Clifton W. Everett, Jr. Collection

Collection (1841-1959, undated) of manuscripts, genealogical materials, photographic prints and printed materials related to the James N. Dickey family of New York and Michigan and William Symington Brown, M. D., who served as a surgeon in the 33rd and 55th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, 1863, during the Civil War. Unrelated is a photograph of U.S. Vice President Barkley attending a Roosevelt Dinner held at East Carolina Teachers College (now ECU) in 1950.

Collection (1899-2004) of printed materials compiled for the centennial of the Orville & Wilbur Wright's first flight at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina; including an article written by the Wright brothers on their flight experiments with various airplanes coupled with printed copies of photographs and a printed reproduction of the article; also copies of Monthly Weather Review magazines from August-September 1899; and a copy of the North Carolina Literary Review dedicated to commemorating the centennial of the first flight complete with poetry and interviews; also two calendars illustrated with images of the Wright brothers flight experiments.
