Papers (1862-1914) concern the life of Benjamin Holt Ticknor (1842-1914) of Boston, Massachusetts, after he enlisted in the 45th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers, Co. G, in 1862 during the Civil War. Included are thirteen letters written to his father during the war with nine (November 1863-March 1864) of them written from Fort Totten in New Bern, N.C. Several documents relate to a court martial and trial he participated in; other documents relate to his postwar involvement in the Loyal Legion and genealogy research. Also included are photographs of his funeral procession. Transferred (not purchased) from Denning House Antiquarian Books & Manuscripts.

[Joseph] Bruccoli (1983) documenting the life and literary career of the Bronx, New York-born American, literary critic, editor, and professor of English literature at the University of South Carolina, who was known for his study of F. Scott Fitzgerald; consisting of bound uncorrected proofs of his biography of James Gould Cozzens, the American novelist and short story writer, entitled James Gould Cozzens: A Life Apart (1983).
Collection (1862-1865) including photocopies of correspondence, military orders, loyalty oaths, an invoice, a voucher, and a medical certificate related to the Civil War in North Carolina.
Papers (1939-1943) include correspondence from a U.S. naval officer describing life on the minesweeper USS YMS-62 (1942-1943) during World War II while stationed in New Orleans and Burwood in Louisiana, at sea, and in Algeria. Lieutenant Commander Brown also records his impressions of Algeria in these letters.
Collection (1841-1959, undated) of manuscripts, genealogical materials, photographic prints and printed materials related to the James N. Dickey family of New York and Michigan and William Symington Brown, M. D., who served as a surgeon in the 33rd and 55th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, 1863, during the Civil War. Unrelated is a photograph of U.S. Vice President Barkley attending a Roosevelt Dinner held at East Carolina Teachers College (now ECU) in 1950.

This collection (2001-2008) has printed material, minutes, correspondence, ephemera and other documents donated by Dr. Keats Sparrow who participated as a member of the North Carolina First Flight Commission and its Education Committee during the 100th Anniversary celebration of the First Flight. The collection also contains a 2003 commemorative booklet "First Flight Visions celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight," information from the International Commission's 2001 Flight Symposium about the Wright Brothers, photographs, clippings, and brochures. This collection consists of the family records, photographs, and genealogy records collected by Sarah Westray Bunn of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. She was an East Carolina Teachers' College 1936 graduate and served in the Army Nurse Corps from 1941 to 1966. Included are genealogy notes concerning the Lewis, Suggs, Speight, Powell, Harrison, and Exum families of Eastern N.C.; late 19th century and 20th Century photographs; correspondence (1905-1998); an 1847 book of children's poetry; clippings; genealogy charts; and a tombstone rubbing.
