Included are family and historical documents such as legal records, maps, family trees, correspondence, clippings, genealogical notes, and photographs, and artifacts from or pertaining to Enfield (Halifax County), North Carolina, Whitaker, Vinson, Harris, and Beavans families. Also included are drawings and articles related to The Holme (ancestral home of the Whitakers in England), information about Whitaker's Chapel, the writings of John W. McGwigan (author of weekly column "Ramblin" in the Enfield Progress), and William H. "Bill" Mann, Jr.'s work on the history of Enfield.
Collection (1803-1996) pertaining to Martin County, NC, farmer John Conrad Getsinger, Sr., (Nov. 4, 1812-Jan. 16, 1891), a native of Wurttemburg, Germany, and several of his descendants consisting of correspondence, memoranda books, a sketchbook created by Mr. Getsinger while he was a soldier (1847-1848) fighting in the Mexican War, financial records, Civil War records pertaining to Mr. Getsinger and his son John C. Getsinger, Jr., religious publications, Primitive Baptist Church records (especially for Smithwick's Creek Primitive Baptist Church), pamphlets, broadsides, photographs, legal papers, newspaper clippings, and miscellany.
This collection includes reminiscences by Peggy Rose Roberts Worthington (born December 29, 1931) of her life in Pitt County from childhood on a tobacco farm to the present that she wrote in 2012 and 2013 while participating in an East Carolina University Lifelong Learning Program creative writing course. Also found in this collection are photocopies of genealogical material and photographs pertaining to the Buck family of Pitt County, North Carolina, and the affiliated Jarrell family of North Carolina and South Carolina compiled by Lillie Mae Kite Buck.
Papers of Richard Wilbur (1948-2008, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted New York City-born American poet, translator, and educator at Wesleyan University and Smith College, who was associated with the New Formalist movement, and who became poet laureate of the United States; including correspondence with John Ciardi, W. S. Merwin, and Louis Untermeyer, manuscript typescripts, audio recordings, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, printed materials, proofs of published materials, & oversized printed & photographic materials.
The collection has papers from the Massengill family, specifically John David, Samuel Evans, and Pauline (Massengill) DeFriece. Included are John's account books, booklets, DeFriece's correspondence with the Country Doctor Museum, photographs, and information about the S. E. Massengill Company.

H. Auden, Christopher Isherwood, T. S. Eliot, Robert Penn Warren, Richard Ghormley Eberhart, Randall Jarrell, Katherine Anne Porter, William Styron, Allen Tate, Peter Hillsman Taylor, and others, in English and French language.
