Correspondence (1868-1869), written from Japan by fellow U.S. naval officers Samuel P. Carter and Earl English.

Collection (1761-1966, undated) consisting correspondence, financial papers, shipping records, land records, printed material, receipts, shipping records, etc.

These records (1894-2000) pertain to the Salisbury-Rowan Lodge No. 100 of the Knights of Pythias in North Carolina, the Salisbury Lodge No. 24 and the Rowan Lodge No. 100. Included are Minute books, Membership Roll books, semi-annual reports, correspondence, financial papers, applications for membership, withdrawal and transfer cards, dismissal and suspension certificates, rosters, directories, photographs and publications that contain procedures for ranks and rituals. Two documents (1898, undated) relate to the Zeb Vance Lodge No. 65 of North Carolina.

Oral history interviews of James "Jimmy" Earl Brake and Robert "Bob" Luther Brake (1938-). Included are transcriptions and three maps which note places discussed in the interview. Interviews were recorded by Alston Cobourn, neice of interviewees.

This collection contains sixty-five letters (1846-1847) the majority of which were written by wholesale merchant Samuel Kissam of Plymouth, North Carolina, to his brother George Kissam, also a merchant, of New York City, New York, discussing mostly business matters. Also included are a couple of letters written by a ship's master at New Orleans, Louisiana, to Samuel Kissam concerning a maritime mishap.

Papers of John Updike (1946-2010, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Reading, Pennsylvania-born American novelist, poet, short story writer, art and literary critic, cartoonist, golfer and golf writer; including manuscripts and manuscript volumes, correspondence, clippings, photographic materials; also including drafts & proofs of published materials, including interviews for Writers at Work: Seventh Paris Review; original art; loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection; also oversized materials.

The Karel B. Absolon Collection is comprised of Absolon family papers and Karel B. Absolon's research and collecting interest, particularly Theodor Billroth. The papers relating to Absolon's family span three generations and include Karel B. Absolon, Karel Absolon, Willibald Absolon, and Jaroslav Bakes (a cousin to Karel Absolon). Karel B. Absolon's primary research interest was Austrian abdominal surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894). Absolon also collected items related to European, primarily men, in the science field. The collection includes correspondence, translations, prints, photographs, articles, ephemera, and original documents.

Papers of Madison Smartt Bell (1922-1997 [Bulk: 1957-1990], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the Nashville, Tennessee-born American novelist, including manuscript materials, proofs of published works, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, and oversized materials, relating primarily to his books Zero db and Other Stories, Barking Man, and The Washington Square Ensemble, and others.

Contained in the collection are notebooks, pamphlets, photographs and negatives from Boice's time at the University of Pennsylvania and his career afterwards.

Papers (1811-1958) of A. D. Peace and Samuel Peace, and Matt Hankins, relating to Trinity College, North Carolina, Civil War battles at Washington, NC, Rappahannock Bridge, and Kelly's Ford, VA, including of copies, a memoir, clippings, genealogical notes, financial account, Bible records, amateur verse, contract, account of medical services.

Papers (1942-1945) including correspondence, vaccination records, drawings, personal history, and miscellany.

Papers of Dave Smith (1982-1984) documenting the life and literary career ofthe noted Portsmouth, Virginia-born American poet, novelist, literary critic, editor, who was an educator at several universities including Johns Hopkins University; consisting of manuscripts, a proof of his poem Gray Soldiers: Poems; published editions of his poems Jogging in the Parlor, Remembering a Summer Moment During Snow Squalls; and Outside Martin's Ferry, Ohio; correspondence with George Core, and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.

Video interview with Admiral William M. A. Greene (1920-2007) on his time as a student at East Carolina Teachers College and his involvement with East Carolina University as an alumnus. Greene discusses student life, his experience as a member of the football team, teachers he had, friends he made, and values instilled by East Carolina.

Papers (1917-1941) of Frank M. Wooten Sr. (1875-1941), a leading Greenville attorney, Superior Court judge, and member of the N.C. General Assembly, and Greenville mayor, consisting of correspondence during first World War, letters, political campaign, pamphlets concerning tobacco, cultivation, agricultural alcohol, clipping, financial papers, etc.
