This collection includes various photographs, letters, and genealogical information related to several families from North Carolina and Virginia. Most of the collection consists of family photographs from the late 1800s and early 1900s, including pictures of unknown members of the included families and some buildings.

Willard and Daisy Rowe Papers (1963-2006) contain newsletters,clippings, publications and a poster documenting the work of the Evangelical Baptist Mission in Franklin County, North Carolina, and in Guatemala.
Jessamine Shumate (1902-1990), a native of Henry County, Virginia, was an artist, historian, and cartographer. She died in Greenville, North Carolina, where her daughters were living.

Lecture notes, business accounts, newspaper articles, military papers, and artifacts of the Garrenton Family. The Garrentons include: James Francis Garrenton (1839-1913), Cecil (1883-1935), and Connell (1910-1985). They established the Bethel Clinic near Greenville, North Carolina.
Papers of Allen Wier (1978-1983 [Bulk: 1978]) documenting the life and career of the noted San Antonio, Texas-born American writer and creative writing educator at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, who was formerly married to the poet, Dara Wier [#1169.089], consisting of loose manuscript items relating to Wier, transferred from Stuart Wright Book Collection volumes, entitled Blanco & Things About to Disappear: A Novel and a Collection of Stories, by Allen Wier (1978); Blanco, by Allen Wier (1978); and Departing as Air, by Allen Wier (1983); including letters to Stuart Wright and Fred Chappell; also an inventory control card for Departing as Air (1983).

The Alice Morgan Person collection (1874-1943, 2004-2008) contains ledgers, testimonials, advertisements, correspondence, and news clippings related to the Mrs. Joe Person Remedy Company. The Remedy was developed by Alice M. Person (Mrs. Joe Person) of Franklinton, Charlotte, and Kittrell, North Carolina, and marketed by her and later her son Rufus M. Person. Other material pertains to the sale of her arrangements of popular songs, and to family life.
Papers include Joseph B. Philips record book, Walter E. Philips' memoirs, poems and other writings, and biographical information about several Philips men.
