Records (1987-2004) of the North Carolina Chapter of the Sierra Club pertaining to conservation issues in North Carolina, including correspondence, reports, directories, newsletters, financial records, membership and staff records, meeting agendas and minutes, printed materials, etc.

The ship's log of the US Brig Porpoise, dated 19 February 1845 to 16 June 1846, was kept during a cruise from New York to the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean. It details navigational statistics, weather reports, sightings and hailing of other ships, and punishments of crew infractions. The author was probably Midshipman Benjamin Lee Henderson and the log was signed in fifteen places by Lt. Commander William E. Hunt.

This collection (2007-2010) is related to Patricia "Pat" Dunn's campaign for Mayor of Greenville, North Carolina, in 2007 and her first mayoral term in 2008 to 2010. Found here are her petition as an East Carolina University faculty member to obtain permission from ECU to run for political office, congratulatory letters and emails, photographs, certificates, the installation program, posters, highlights of her first term, and newspaper clippings.

Collection (1903-2004) of materials relating to Wilbur and Orville Wright and the origin and development of flight in Italy, especially the Wright Brothers activities in Italy (1909-1910), acquired from the Gianni Caproni Museum, at Trento, Italy. Included are photographic and printed materials, stamps, videocassettes, and original art, assembled for a temporary exhibit for the centennial of the first flight at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, 13-17 December 2003.

Papers (1913 – 1953, and undated) of physician Charles E. Flowers, Sr. (1889-1962). The papers consist mainly of World War I correspondence to and from Charles E. Flowers (1917-1919). Some were written while he was in the 29th Division, 7th Army Corps, and American Expeditionary Forces. The papers also contain photographs and Flowers' medical school yearbook (1913-1917, 1940-1953).

Papers of Harry Crews (1973-1987, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Alma, Georgia-born American novelist, playwright, short story writer, essayist & educator at the University of Florida, where he taught creative writing; including proofs of published materials, photographic prints, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, printed materials & oversized materials.

Papers of Andrew Nelson Lytle (1934–1992, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Murfreesboro, Tennessee-born, American biographer, novelist, dramatist, literary critic, educator, and editor, who became a leader and spokesman for the Southern Agrarian literary movement, including correspondence, manuscript materials, typescripts and holographs, printed materials, and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.

Papers of Merrill Moore (1929–1987, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Columbia, Tennessee-born American poet, physician and psychiatrist, who became a leader and spokesman for the Fugitive Group of Southern poets that included Robert Penn Warren and Allen Tate, among others; including correspondence, manuscript materials, printed materials and loose manuscript materials from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.

Papers of A. R. Ammons (1954-1993, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Whiteville, North Carolina-born American poet and creative writing educator at Cornell University; consisting of correspondence, proofs of published material, printed materials and oversized materials; also including loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection relating to Stuart Wright's research on A. R. Ammons.

In this oral history Dr. Virginia Hardy discusses the history of the East Carolina University's Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Center, its move from Brewster Hall to the new Student Union including its renaming to the Jesse R. Peel LGBTQ center, and its directions for the future. Additionally, she discusses the shifts in campus culture related to the LGBTQ community and becoming a part of the nationwide Campus Pride Index.

Papers (1966-1992, undated) of Carol Leigh Humphries, a Southern Baptist Conference missionary woman from Person County, North Carolina, including letters to family and friends in North Carolina documenting her career as a missionary in Jos, Kaduma and other locations in Nigeria, British West Africa; newspaper clippings related to Humphries' missionary work; also genealogical notes of Mrs. Emma H. Blalock.

Various unrelated items (1862-1865) concerning the Civil War including two 1862 letters, an 1865 oath of allegiance, Harper's Weekly lithographs (1862), an Atlantic and North Carolina Railroad Company 1862 statement, an 1862 $1000 Civil War bond from North Carolina;, and photocopies of a memoir written about fifty years after the war and transcribed in 1978, an 1862 letter and an 1863 circular.

Thomas Mann was born in 1718 in Hertford County, NC. He owned almost 4,000 acres of land in Edgecombe County at the time of his death in 1792. The collection spans 1745, 1752, and 1910 including a land grant to Thomas Mann from George II, a plat map of a servey of Nann's property, State Fair entry flags, and various fragmented documents. The strength of the collection is Thomas Mann's legacy.
