The Harnett County Common Schools Collection contains a few pages from a Common School Register (1879) from a school for African American students, in District No. 1, Harnett County, North Carolina.

This collection contains 38 items that pertains to the life and career of Edward E. Johnson, who served as assistant to the Reverend Horace James, Superintendent of Negro Affairs in North Carolina, following the Civil War.

The Watson and Boomer families of Beaufort and Hyde Counties, North Carolina, were connected through marriage. Included are original deeds from the early and mid-1800s; birth, death, and marriage dates and genealogy notes; baby book-type notes about the lives of 2 children (1885-1888) of William I. Watson (his mother was a Boomer) and wife "Ms. Charlie" Sidney Archbell Watson; World War I letters (1917-1918) written by William E. Watson to relatives in Aurora (Beaufort County), North Carolina, from Camp Sevier and Fort Jackson in South Carolina; and photographs (late 1800s-early 1900s).

Included are the records (1961-2025) of the Dilettante Book Club of Greenville, North Carolina. Members of the ECC (East Carolina College) Faculty Wives Club met in September 1961 to start the book club and established the name Dilettante Book Club at their October 1961 meeting. The club disbanded in September 22nd 2025.

This collection contains the papers of Halifax Co., North Carolina, Superior Court Clerk John Tillery Gregory (1832-1905) and also includes correspondence with his sister and his children. Gregory operated a store with W. W. Daniels, was Clerk of Superior Court for many years, was town treasurer, and fought in the Civil War with Co G of the 12th North Carolina State Troops. The son of Dr. Thomas Wynns Gregory and Mary Tillery Gregory, he was married to Ellen Augusta Clarke and they had nine children.

Genealogical files (undated) pertaining to the Croom family, related families, and the Croom reunions in Sandy Bottom, Lenoir County, North Carolina, including correspondence, research notes, programs, family histories, genealogical charts, clippings, and miscellany. Also includes a school project created by Doris Croom Outlaw's daughter Nancy Sue Outlaw at age 14 in 1963 which includes information about her family history background and experiences in her home life and school life in Kinston, North Carolina, and contains photographs.

Material (1898-1948) including legal correspondence and summons, tax receipts, accounts ledger, deeds, contracts and life insurance policies related to the real estate business of Gaston Watson (1865-1933) and his wife Fannie Morris Watson (1884-1965) of Wilson, North Carolina. Also included are photographs related to the family; WWII pay records and photographs related to son William Kirby Watson (1919-1993); and an 1854 copy of "Zion's Hymns" compiled for use in Original Free-Will Baptist Churches of North Carolina.

The Herman H. Duncan Collection consists of seven photographic prints (1921–1922, undated) depicting Greenville High School athletic teams and unidentified baseball teams in eastern North Carolina. Included are group portraits of the football, basketball, track and field, and baseball teams from Greenville High School, as well as images of unidentified teams, one possibly from New Bern, North Carolina. The photographs document early 20th-century high school athletics and local sports culture in Pitt County and surrounding areas.

Includes written and typed correspondence related to North Carolina and Pennsylvania artist Francis Speight's paintings, especially "Winter Scene." Also included is a presentation given by Claiborne T. Smith about Francis Speight.

This collection (1850-1988) includes records pertaining to Whitaker's Chapel, a Methodist Church near Enfield in Northeastern North Carolina, and minutes (1848-1939) of the Methodist Protestant Church's Roanoke Circuit to which it belonged.

Papers (1854-1865) of Robert C. Caldwell, a private soldier from Cabarrus County, NC, who served in Company C., 10th Battalion, North Carolina Heavy Artillery during the Civil War.

Daybook (1847-1869) for Pitt County, North Carolina, physician Dr. Richard Williams including credits and debits, list of birth and deaths, sale of enslaved black persons, and dates of sale of enslaved persons.

Papers (1844-1854, 1897-1959) of Pitt County, NC family, including tobacco warehouse records (1913-1936), store and other business records (1844-1854, 1912-1959), public school records (1897-1926), picture post cards, correspondence and miscellany.

Collection (12 February 1864) consisting of a letter from Pvt. James Addison Lowrie, Company D of the 57th North Carolina Infantry, at Kinston, NC, to his brother Robert [of Brunswick County, NC], reporting on his good health, the poor mail service, the lack of news, the growing dissatisfaction among "the boys", the recent desertion of 14 men from the 21st Regiment North Carolina Infantry, and the Kinston Hangings, the hanging, on 12 February 1864, of five men who had deserted the Confederate Army and been recaptured: Amos Amyett, Mitchell Busick, Lewis Bryan, William Irving and John Staley; after deserting, the men had joined the 2nd North Carolina Union Volunteers and been captured on 1 February 1864, at Beech Grove; also transcript of letter; also digital copy.

Collection (1955-1997) of clippings relating to Camp Oceanside, the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolinas summer camp for African American children, located on Topsail Island, North Carolina, 1955-1985, from diocesan publications, including Episcopal Life, 1993; Cross Current, 1979-1997; and Mission Herald, 1956-1957.
