The Karel B. Absolon Collection is comprised of Absolon family papers and Karel B. Absolon's research and collecting interest, particularly Theodor Billroth. The papers relating to Absolon's family span three generations and include Karel B. Absolon, Karel Absolon, Willibald Absolon, and Jaroslav Bakes (a cousin to Karel Absolon). Karel B. Absolon's primary research interest was Austrian abdominal surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894). Absolon also collected items related to European, primarily men, in the science field. The collection includes correspondence, translations, prints, photographs, articles, ephemera, and original documents.

Papers of George Core (1960-1997 [Bulk: 1960-1983]) documenting the life and literary career of the American historian, literary critic, and editor relating to his life and career as editor of The Sewanee Review, 1973-2016, including holographs, typescripts and other manuscript materials; photographic prints; loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including correspondence with Donald Davidson, Stuart Wright and Durrett Wagner of Swallowtail Press; a photograph of George Core at The Sewanee Review; a note about Andrew Lytle's work The Hero With The Private Parts; and materials relating to books he reviewed, including Any Cold Jordan and Camping Out.

Oral history interviews of James "Jimmy" Earl Brake and Robert "Bob" Luther Brake (1938-). Included are transcriptions and three maps which note places discussed in the interview. Interviews were recorded by Alston Cobourn, neice of interviewees.

The majority of the collection relates to Captain Leslie Avery Shaw's military service in the U.S. Army, especially during World War II when he served in the 11th AAA, 49th AAA Brigade, VII Corps, U.S. First Army in Europe. Included are maps and overlays concerning operations at Utah Beach at Normandy, orders, citations, reports, photographs, letters, postcards, military ribbons and insignia, and items from his personal military file. Additional items including many photographs document his personal life after the war. Photographs, printed material and memorabilia from the 1950s and early 1960s relate to the early years of his son Robert Avery Shaw's life in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Papers of George Garrett (1930-2009 [Bulk: 1960-2009], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Orlando, Florida-born American poet and novelist, consisting of audio recordings, correspondence, manuscripts of poems by, about, or relating to George Garrett, Madison Smartt Bell, Carolyn Chute, Larry McMurtry, Ned O'Gorman, Henry S. Taylor & others; also including notes, oversized materials, photographic prints, printed forms, proofs of published works, loose manuscript materials transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, & printed materials; in English & French language.

Correspondence and miscellany (1951-1953) reflecting life of sailor stationed aboard the USS Columbus CA-74.

Papers (1934-1969) of N.C. State Senator and U.S. District Court Judge John Davis Larkins, Jr., including correspondence, speeches, judge's notes, case files, clippings, photographs, leaflets, scrapbooks, concerns of state fishery industry, information of osteopathic profession, etc.

Papers (1854-1865) including typescripts, correspondence, photocopies of army muster rolls, enlistment contract and discharge, letters comment on destruction of standing crops of Virginia, the demolition of Hampton, etc.

Papers (1848-1970) including correspondence, account book, diary fragments, bylaws, genealogical notes, letters, and miscellany.

This collection (1884, 1908-2005) includes the papers of Helen Keel Peel (who died in 2005 at the age of 88) and her husband James Woolard Peel (who died in 1986), of Everetts in Martin County, North Carolina. Included in the collection are a diary (1934-1937); photographs; typescripts related to Helen Peel's historical research about Everetts and Martin County; correspondence, scrapbook, and autograph books related to her public school years and her 1933-1934 time at Louisburg College; scrapbooks covering the time span of ca. 1956-1994; and Bible (1836) records, especially births, for the years 1808-1851 for members of the Peel, Woolard, Ward, Martin and Barnhill families of Martin County. Also included are report cards, transcripts, and correspondence related to James Peel's public schooling and time (1931-1935) at N.C. State University; U.S. Army service-related materials for his time in the Reserves (1936) and World War II (1942-1945); memorabilia related to his membership in the Order of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite; Martin County deeds and plats (1884-1972); account books (1908-1944); and remodeling plans (2000-2005) by Dr. Jesse R. Peel for his parents' house. deeds for various tracts of land in Everetts and elsewhere in Martin County, N.C., and papers (plat maps, correspondence, financial papers) that document involvement with Timberlands Unlimited, Inc., of Windsor, N.C.

This collection contains pamphlets on alcohol and drug abuse and resources for members of the East Carolina community.

Photograph album documenting the travels (1951) of the USS Seiverling through stops in Pearl Harbor, Midway, Japan, and probably Hong Kong, participation in the Taiwan Strait Patrol, and bombardments near Songjin, North Korea. Photographs depict not only the activities of the sailors, but also activities of the local people. Also included are photographs of other U.S. Navy ships, and small boats carrying surrendering North Koreans.

Papers include daily and monthly reports; trial statements; criminal investigation procedures; policies; training publications and the quizzers that accompanies them; certificates; commendation; newspaper and article clippings; photographs; negatives; brochures; flyers; signs; correspondence: two sets of notes of screenplay research on Garland Bunting; Kopka's retirement speech; sketch; armband; and a roster that lists violators.

Material documenting the life of WWII U.S. Navy Captain Victor Delano including accounts (1941-1986) of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and duty in the USS West Virginia, by Victor Delano, Pearl Harbor artifacts, correspondence, Familygrams, ships logs, research studies, photograph albums, loose photographs, certificates, diplomas, medals and ribbons, clippings, programs, and publications. Also includes two packets of drawings of Admiral Horatio Nelson's flagship, H.M.S. VICTORY, 1970; and an article, entitled "TOP SECRET COMPHIBPAC OPERATIONS PLAN A11-45: The Story of the Invasion of Japan" by James Martin, ca. 1986.
