Papers (1830-2011, undated [bulk 1830-1973]) relating to the Young – Spicer family of Fredericks Hall, Louisa County, Virginia and related families living in Virginia, Mississippi and Louisiana, including correspondence relating to the civil war, businesses, taxes & family matters; journals, photographic prints; genealogical and historical files and a listing of the gravestones in the Young-Spicer Cemetery at the family home, "Locust Grove" at Fredericks Hall, Virginia. Photocopies and original documents.
Collection includes papers related to the personal life and non-university activities of East Carolina University History Professor Lawrence Fay Brewster (ECU professor from 1945 to 1969) for whom the Lawrence F. Brewster Classroom Building on campus was named in 1974. Included are materials (1857-1945) related to his parents and ancestors, Brewster's early life and education through earning his Ph.D., his teaching job at Cranleigh School for Boys in St. Petersburg, Florida, and his work with the Works Progress Administration as Research Editor for the Historical Records Survey of North Carolina. The vast majority (1960-1991) of the collection concerns his work as historiographer for the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina and writing his "History of the Protestant Episcopal, The Diocese of East Carolina."

Letters, photographs, ephemera, maps, and printed materials (1966-1968, 1986) of U.S. Navy Hospitalman 3rd Class (HM3) in the Vietnam War relating to his training at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Great Lakes, IL; his service in Company D., 1st Medical Battalion, 1st Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps, in Da Nang and Phu Bai, Vietnam; and his Rest and Recreation leaves in Bangkok, Thailand, Georgetown, and Penang, Malaysia.
The collection includes materials (1898-1959) documenting the work of Shackleford Banks native Josiah Clark Chadwick working on freighters running from North Carolina to New York, and then with the Army Corps of Engineers in North Carolina (1927-1959) working the Eastern N.C. federal waterway projects on diesel engines and then inspecting dredges. Included are family history, Chadwick's work history, training materials, engineers' level books, logbooks, and inventories of engineering property in Chadwick's charge.

The collection contains a group of copied pages from several sources, with the cover page titled "Wood Tucker Johnson, M.D., Medical Lectures - University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine 1820-1823." Within these pages is a copy of a photograph (presumably of Johnson), a letter, copied pages from books, and complete typed versions of two books. Also in the collection are two handwritten books and Johnson's certificate of membership to the Philadelphia Medical Society and his University of Pennsylvania Medical School diploma.
Papers of Eleanor Ross Taylor (1940-2008 [Bulk: 1989-2008], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Falls Church, Virginia-born American poet, short story writer, and literary critic, consisting of edited manuscripts, proofs of published material & printed materials, including The Soul and Body of John Brown: A Poem, by Muriel Ruykeyser (1940); also including correspondence with Stuart Wright concerning her husband Peter Hillsman Taylor's papers; and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection.
This collection consists of original photographs, photographic prints (copies), negatives and proof sheets (ca. 1890-1900, 1950s -1970s) documenting history in and around the area of Murfreesboro, North Carolina. These consist primarily of images of businesses, buildings, boats and ferries, mills, cemeteries and gravestones, architectural features of interest, churches, schools, people and historical houses.
